How's the writing? One of the primary points of interest for me is how Ian Flynn's script compares to Pontac and Graff's, his work on the comics has been very hit or miss for me over the years but I doubt he can do worse than Pontaff.

Him subtly making his one of his waifu OCs canon is pretty lol though, sounds exactly like something he would do. Back in the Archie days he used to be really obsessed with Sally Acorn and wanted her to be Sonic's one true love, he even wrote a (now deleted) blog post about how she didn't need to change or develop as a character because she was already perfect to him. IIRC he also published a letter from a little girl who wanted to know if Sonic and Amy would ever get together in the "Letters from Fans" section of one issue and basically scolded her for backing the wrong ship. From what I've read of the IDW books he seems to have made Whisper and Tangle his new pets so I'm sure he fought hard to get that reference in there.

He's also got a really rabid fanbase who treat him as the only legitimate keeper of the keys to Sonic canon and act like everything he writes is solid gold, so I'd prefer to get impressions from people who aren't predisposed to fellating him.

Could've been better, could've been worse. Like, his dialogues are overly wordy and sometimes feel very, very forced and out of place. If you have problems with his writing in IDW then you'll probably find the same issues here.

For example, I feel like Amy is OOC in the story, she interacts with Sonic as if she never had a crush on him. He wants her to be independent and the next Sally but he forgets that she's just a 12 year old girl who has a huge obsession over a blue rat. Funnily enough the Japanese script doesn't have a problem with it because during the ending she literally tells Sonic "teehee just wait until I get better, you won't regret it!", so good job Kishimoto.

Sounds about right, he's been pretty opposed to Sonic/Amy ever since he began writing back in 2006. His interpretation of her has always been just spunky-action-girl, the only time she's ever acknowledged her feelings for Sonic under his pen is to explain why she's totally fine with him dating other girls. Still better than having her be a useless hanger-on like in the last few games though.

But really, we're never going to get real quality writing in anything Sonic-related unless Sega relaxes their iron grip on the characters. Flynn was at his best back in the 2006 to roughly 2009 era when Sega basically ignored the comics altogether and let him do whatever he wanted as long as it didn't blatantly contradict the games. It was after they started clamping down on things that his writing got a lot spottier, and the IDW series is so heavily regulated that even when the writers come up with good ideas it's always watered down by the need to maintain status quo. I don't actively read it anymore but I think the new head writer, Evan Stanley, is doing a fairly good job considering what she has to work with. She's definitely better at writing female characters, particularly Amy, than Flynn is IMO.

I like his older stuff, but with his later stuff I start to see flaws such as forced references, a weird obsession with lesbians, an apparent inability to write an unsympathetic female villain.
Edit: Also, the weird pattern in IDW where all the new good guys are female and all the new bad guys are male except for Surge, but I don’t think that’s strictly an Ian problem

Does anyone know how Frontiers runs on the Switch?
Acceptably, from people who've gotten ahold of physical Switch copies early. It uses AMD's FSR to upscale textures, which some have pointed as being indicative of how outdated the hardware is now.

Soneone recently uploaded footage of every Cyberspace level in the game (PS5 version):

From the comments section, timestamps for each individual level:

29:06 Doesn't ring any bells. If this is really an original stage, it's very good
30:33 Man, what a cool stage. It's very open, there's lots of pathways to choose... The ziplines remind me of vines in... some sonic level somewhere but idk what that is.
31:58 Mmm... This level looks kinda difficult
34:08 Kishimoto must have not seen this looks very hard
35:30 - Chemical Plant Act 1 - Sonic Generations
36:53 - Looks like an experimental bonus stage
38:07 - More Creativity on display from the developers
38:49 - That's classic Sonic's scateboard...

I gave the video a rewatch and I could only see one actual zip line at the 31:20 mark for less than a second, but the bungee drops that are very noticeable during the level are similar to the bungee vines from Sonic Adventure 2’s Green Forest and White Jungle stages.

Considering it's an almost 6 year old Android tablet, it's impressive that it runs this game competently at all. Switch is becoming the new PS2 in terms of how much devs are pushing its nose to the grindstone to squeeze more life out of it.

I don't blame Nintendo for not pushing out an updated model yet considering all the frustration Sony and Microsoft have been through lately, but they've got to do it before development fully transitions to PS5/XSX or it might become impossible for most multiplats to be released on Switch.

Personally I'm going to play on PC first and may grab the Switch version as well if I feel like doing a second run.

In all the console gameplay I've seen, there's an icon that keeps popping up throughout the game of a crossed-out camera. Seems that the base game is heavily locked-down to prevent any 'spoilers' from popping up from console recording features... as though capture cards or the PC version don't exist.

Reviews are starting to come in aaand...

Skill Up is a complete retard so that must mean the game is good.

Honestly nothing I've seen about this has looked terrible. It looks kind of fun and I'm leaning towards buying it, I haven't played a Sonic game since SA2 so I'm not overly familiar with the franchise but it seems like this will be an enjoyable, if not groundbreaking, entry.
It’s more boostshit, it’s gonna suck

Shit, I read spoilers on accident because they weren't hidden and I was reading posts out of order. Gay.

Video of all the game's bosses:

Video of just the Titan bosses and ending:

Edit: It's always a weird feeling to watch the ending of a game that hasn't even been released yet. The game does look like it has some faults, but honestly I'm looking forward to playing it at some point. Not a day one purchase, but definitely plan on trying it at some point. Also digging the design and fight for Wyvern.

Not gonna lie, the father-daughter relationship between Eggman and Sage felt heartwarming, and I like that after-credits scene where he tries to save her consciousness.
