Why the fuck were they developing 3D shit if Saturn's architecture made it very difficult?
Because the Saturn was competing with the Playstation and N64 which could actually do 3D. In response Saturn also had to do 3D because 3D was new at the time and it was selling systems.

So IIRC they had to fuck around with shit to get 3D to work properly because saturn was just made with the intentions that they were going to do 2D still but better. Sega was for the most part not figuring on 3D being a major thing. The fact that 32X and Sega CD came out to extend the genesis' cycle also didn't help because those still took resources away from the eventual saturn and sunk Sega's credibility.

The Saturn was a completely different beast compared to the PS1 and N64, mostly because it used quads instead of triangles like everyone else was using (although things like Sega Model 1/2/3, 3DO, and NVIDIA NV-1 also used quads). I'm no tech wizard, but from what little research I've done, triangle are better for low polygon models than quads.

For a better comparison, here's PS1 and Saturn footage of Tomb Raider and Dead Or Alive

The Saturn was more of a 2D champion than a 3D, what with it's sprite scaling and all that, but Sega also had this thing called Virtua Fighter, so if they wanted more people to play that, they had no choice but to stick it on their machine. They were kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place and they did it to themselves.

So where's onto three Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) remakes at this, two of which are made inside other Sonic games.
I mean I get it, people want to rewrite history and 06 was the point when Sonic truly fell off the wagon and was left never the same but still this is getting kinda ridiculous.

Anyways, the real reason why I brought this up is that I find it funny how it looks like the 2012 Sonic The Hedgehog 3D.

One could almost make a remake of it inside of the mod which is a remake in and of itself.

I'd laugh my ass off if SEGA pulls a Moneky's Paw and released this as a mobage game with fuck-ton of microtransactions.

Also wtf are these questions? Game Informer comes off as literal retards that don't know how to conduct a proper interview.

Here's a question: What's stopped them from doing just that all these years? They put out Sonic Runners for a bit and did those damn Genesis ports on mobile (and even Sonic 4 started out as a mobile game originally). Other than "Sega is retards", why not take a shot you couldn't really lose all that much money on, especially with how marketable the Chao are?

There was some good info regardless, I think. A direct confirmation of Sonic Adventure 3, have they ever done that before? A more disappointing revelation was there probably won't be a Sonic Maker, which I think could be way better than Mario Maker.

I wouldn't hate honestly. It'd be like the modern day Tomogachi or whatever the Chao equivalent of that was.

That SA3 thing sounded more like an optimistic "maybe" than anything. And the Sonic hacking community would probably throw the mother of bitchfits if Sega somehow made their niche accessible to a general audience without fucking it up

"Some day" is technically an inevitability, but I guess he might not have meant it that literally.

>Iizuka thinks Sonic Forces will be the most successful that Eggman will ever be in his goal.
More reasons to hate Forces
They had a simple idea for a story, have Eggman actually achieve his dream of world domination
This should've been a really solid story, but instead Sonic Team decided to focus on their new edgy OC donut steel instead

Dosen't help that Sonic just treated the whole thing like it was just another Sunday despite being tortured for months

There's a REALLY old flash series called "Disecting Sonic" where the author talks about how making modern sonic into "Chuck-Norris Jesus" Sonic makes everyone and everything around the world completely meaningless, especially when it's his NORMAL form. I tend to agree with this, and it's basically why I find modern sonic fucking boring as a character.

90's cartoons like SatAM and AOSTH had sonic acting all cocky and shit, but he still had limitations and understood that, which is where his friends came along to be the missing link to said limitations. Robotnik was ALWAYS a major threat, even the goofy AOSTH one. Ever since Unleashed, it's like Eggman is just a minor annoyance that also doubles as comic relief, and while he IS entertaining, it's like he's being hindered on purpose by the writers, or sega, or whomever.

The Chaos are not marketable and never have been, this is not a personal opinion of mine but something their creator, Sachiko Kawamura said as much herself.

Link to article and the video this is clipped from.

But if you asked me, I think something like a expanded Mini Chao Garden (GBA) could work but even still, they invest money into something with shaky unclear returns.

I've often wondered what it would have been like if companies had given 3D more time in the oven and we got an extra 2D focused gen before the switch to focus on 3D.

I mean it's just as well since the groundwork had to be laid for 3D to really get impressive in the late 90s and 2000s, but it's fun to imagine say a Mario or Sonic with Metal Slug quality graphics.

In this timeline, given more time to prepare for 3D, Sega probably would not have bowed out of the console scene as early.
