Naka is such a petty faggot, holy shit. Adventure 2 ist still my favorite guilty pleasure, but no one can deny how the edge was turned up to 11.
It had its moments, but its wierd how off the rails the Adventure games were. All of that for a blue forest critter.
That happened because the main villain was a black forest critter (who later got his own game in which he shot guns and was made by black foreigners who wanted to attack and subjugate those inferior to them).

and something about natives getting disenfranchised because of a mutant water monster they pissed off but because they died it was all his fault

So is Central City being Detroit canon?

Honestly, the butchering of Sonic 3's soundtrack because of the Michael Jackson "controversy", (really, the only reason why there's a controversy in the first place is because MJ started talking about certain individuals within the recording industry) is the main reason why I'm ignoring the fuck out of this "collection". All of the "allegations" are provable bullshit and rely on a whole lot of coincidence, but try telling that to autists who believe everything the media tells them to. Everyone keeps confirming, then walking back comments on whether or not he was involved in tracks of the game, trying to blame his backing out on the fact that he didn't like how it sounded (despite Moonwalker being released around the same time which relied heavily on his music and sounded pretty okay).
In my opinion if you were to ignore the collection it should be the idea that you have to pay $40 for an overpriced buggy collection of old games rather than the soundtrack butchering which can be fixed with a simple fanmade music replacement mod.

I didn't want to go with something so obvious that it needed to be said. Not paying $40 for an overpriced romhack collection should be the default position for anyone who actually knows how many times these games have been released, and re-released. This "collection" is a slap in the face and should've included 3D Blast, Sonic Spinball, Mean Bean Machine (even though that itself is just a Puyo Puyo clone), and possibly a couple of other games (maybe Adventure 1 & 2).

Nah, save that for the 3D Collection.

Fair. Origins should've just been the Genesis / 32X era. What really should've been released:

Sonic 1, Sonic CD, Sonic 2, Sonic 3 and Knuckles, Sonic 3D Blast, Sonic Spinball, Mean Bean Machine, and Knuckles Chaotix.

Now THAT would've been a proper Origins collection.

At that point may as well add in the SMS & GG games too.

If Sonic 3d blast had a traditional 3rd person camera instead of an isometric view, would the game be more popular?

Looking at the level design itself it's not that far off from fan made games.

The game revolving around Flickies was a flawed concept and dragged it down. I still think it was fun, but it would be greatly improved by just adding SM64 style collectables or something instead.

Here's the problem with that theory

Sonic 3d Blast's levels are narrow-ish. Level design like that wouldn't work as well as say Sonic Adventure unless they were scripted or if the character was slower (like AMY slow). You'd be fighting with the camera trying to look out for enemies, flickies, and Tails/Knuckles going a bajillion miles an hour as Sonic.

The Isometric view works because the camera is in one spot, always fixated on sonic, and raised high enough to where you can see shit coming before you ram past/into it (most of the time anyways).

Genesis/Mega Drive 3D Blast soundtrack > Saturn 3D Blast soundtrack (except for the Saturn Special Stage). Fight me, faggots.

What if you scaled the levels up so they're much much bigger? You'd be able to fill them with things/secrets.

Remember when Sonic Adventure DX threw in all the Game Gear games, including one that was Japan only, simply because “why the hell not”? I miss when compilation releases just got bigger and bigger, with the 360/PS3 era dumping as many games as they could into their collections before they caught onto what the Virtual Console and XBLA were doing and decided making smaller collections/standalone releases would make them more money.

Sega Genesis Collection on PS2 and PSP had over 30 games including a few arcade releases, interviews, videos, artwork/manual scans, and even a small hints/cheats section for each game. Then Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection on 360/PS3 improved on that even further with about 50 games (interestingly, it had Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles, but not Sonic 3 & Knuckles, supposedly due to technical issues).

Honorable non-Sega mention goes to Namco Museum Virtual Arcade on 360. It had about 35 games including a few of the relatively new PSP Arrangement games and XBLA versions of all the games that had them, along with Pac-Man Championship Edition, Galaga Legions, and Mr. Driller Online (these three were practically brand new at the time, and Mr. Driller has since been delisted, making this collection the only legal way to get it now)… and abysmal sales numbers. No Namco Museum since has come close to having that many games.

Yuji Naka is now claiming that usage of the NiGHTS engine would've been impossible for Sonic X-treme because it was in Assembly vs whatever the fuck X-treme was coded in. Even Chris Senn thinks the story of Naka throwing a bitchfit is gossip. Wouldn't that software be owned by Sega though and not Naka himself? Why the fuck were they developing 3D shit if Saturn's architecture made it very difficult?

It makes sense that Senn wouldn't be entirely certain of what happened given he pretty much fucked off with Ofer Alon after the Project Condor phase started, which was right before this quoted segment of the timeline Mike Wallis gave:
In Mike Wallis (one of the developers of X-Treme)'s own words:
April 1996? - Bernie Stolar takes over as CEO of SOA. He came over and asked me what we needed to help further our chance. After consulting with the team, it is determined that the NiGHTS engine would be very helpful, as we didn't have time to develop all the tools necessary. Stolar promises the tools. We receive some editors and the engine code shortly after.

2 weeks later - After familiarizing ourselves with both and moving forward, Stolar informs us that SOJ (specifically Naka) has forbidden us from using the code. He claims that Naka threatened to quit if SOA were allowed to use his team's technology. We're back to square one with 2-3 weeks now wasted.
Either Mike Wallis is a liar, or Yuji Naka is.
And that part of Sonic X-treme development involved locking a small team in STI away from all the problems to finish the game by Christmas, which didn't happen.

Maybe Naka should've told the X-Treme team that instead of stomping his feet, holding his breath, and threatening to quit, but what the fuck do I know, I'm not a superstar game dev like Yuji! Also, didn't he just say that X-Treme was developed without his knowledge? If that's the case, then HOW COULD HE HAVE KNOWN WHAT PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE X-TREME WAS CODED IN?! MY GOD, THIS NIGGER.

Did the Saturn version have the same music as the PC version? If so...

And Mega Man; they put more games on the old collection before, all on one disc, with bonus games instead of just mainline entries. Now they spread out less content between two "collections" and charge just as much.[/Spoiler]

Yes, it did. The Genesis' driving electronic twang always fit the feel of Sonic better to me than the artsy-fartsy piano-laden Saturn version (except for, like I said, the Special Stage, and mayyyyybe the Saturn Rusty Ruin).

That distinct Genesis sound is more deeply associated with Sonic, it's probably just my nostalgia speaking tbh
