Which game, though? I’d probably agree for Sonic 2 (though I hate its boss), but not any of the other games it’s been featured in.
Yeah, Sonic 2. What are the other versions? I know one other, Mania.

What is it about the boss you don't like? I'm guessing that it's how easy it is to cheese him, but most people won't catch that on the first run.

I really wish Sonic Frontiers was just trying to 1-Up Super Mario Odyssey instead of well looking like a Zelda: BOTW inspired game.

What's really killing any hype I could theoretically have with Frontiers is that it looks like this Forest world is the singular world of the game. Sonic was all about different themed zones, hence why Odyssey's format could do wonders. There should be a large themed worlds to explore, a Chemical Plant, a Casino/Carnival, a Robotnik techno nightmare zone, etc etc.

What made Odyssey insanely enjoyable was that it brilliantly merged linear set piece sequences alongside a open stage that you were encouraged to just fart around in and explore. There's no reason I can't see that game design working for Sonic. And Odyssey by all means didn't do everything right, there was a lot of lazy segments and much of the writing could have been spruced up.

Alas I have a seemingly endless video game library thanks to Steam, Gog, and Emulation. I'm never gonna run out of Cereal Box Mascot platformers. Just hope Team Sonic can maybe do that for the next game. Unless Sega is hiding a lot from us I'm guessing if I played Frontiers I'd drop it in a couple hours, just as I did with Halo Infinite.

It's already been confirmed that there are other islands beyond the one we've seen. So, it seems like the game's environment won't be too static.

Got this from Sonic News Network:
The Starfall Islands house a myriad of set pieces across the lands, including dense forests, expansive grass fields, towering mountains, overflowing waterfalls, sizzling deserts, coastal beaches, and ancient monuments and gardens.

Far from entirely devoid of urbanization, the Starfall Islands are home to a number of ancient ruins from a past, yet highly advanced civilization that used to exist on them. In addition, strange robotic enemies roam the various islands.
Okay so it's not gonna be as bland as Halo Infinite's game world turned out. Still, we're not going to see some crazy dystopia city, doubtful there will be a flying battery zone, sure as hell will not go onto the Death Egg.

It's hardly the end of the world. But I think varied level settings are just essential to platformers.

Funny how all the interesting settings are in the Forces style stages (alongside Green Hill and Chemical Plant again), while the open worlds get generic BOTW plains with rails copy and pasted in the air.

To be fair, we've only seen the grassland island so far. We know from text on the website there's a desert-themed one. If it is copying BOTW I expect the other two to be water-themed and fire-themed lol

Generations (good, but not the best zone for classic or modern), Mania (a great zone and probably one of the best, especially act 2, it just has strong competition), Forces (that entire game is pretty forgettable so I don’t remember how it compares), and now Frontiers.

I don’t know how to cheese it, I just think it’s a pain in the ass due to the disappearing platforms that insta-kill you if you miss a single jump, especially with the boss moving toward the side of the screen. It gets even worse if you have Tails since he’ll jump toward the boss, damage it, give it i-frames, and make your jump go through it, killing you instantly.

In fact, I know this is a wuss thing to complain about, but I’m getting more annoyed by insta-kill mechanics in platformers in general as I get older. Especially with something like Sonic; you get plenty of rings and shields that let you take tons of hits, making the game too easy if anything, but then the game goes “oh, you missed one single jump/this moving block moved one pixel below the top of your hitbox? fuck you, you’re dead”.

In that sense, something like Cuphead or Super Meat Boy feels more fair; those games are much harder, but you don’t get the feeling that some hazards are arbitrarily more punishing than others since they all do the same amount of damage.

Replace a few in the video with "city", "factory", and "water", and you pretty much have the Sonic equivilant of a Mario template.

Then again "forest" and "jungle" have water sections as well so it doesn't even fucking matter.

I really hope Sage isn't the main villain and they don't make her overly dramatic and annoying.

Also here's a may may, done by @Domestic_Maid.

How can you look at that color scheme and not immediately think "villian"?

It's not the first time they've done the plot twist antagonist before, hell, it's not even the first time they did it via unassuming anime girl

The real question is how are they going to turn that anime girl into the Sonic Colors final boss fight again?
