I'm not personally optimistic for Sonic Prime, I feel like they are going to drop the ball with the AU stuff but who knows.

the right is probably more what it'l be like instead of funny multimedia reference sonics on the left, especially with how fucking litigous megacorps are now with parodies of shit they own that the parody people don't.

I'm not expecting anything from the AUs as they'll likely go for the standard stuff (Rule 63, role swap, etc).

I doubt they'll drop the ball, but I also doubt they'll be breaking any new ground either.

Edit: Now that I think about; if there is a rule 63 dimension, then the degenerates in the fanbase will have a field day with that.

Both of those would still be breaking any new ground, genderswap Sonic stuff has been big for several years and Role Swap stuff is not a huge but it's still pretty big.

Genderswap stuff you can't really fuck up, it's still possible but it's relatively easy to get right because the concept is simple, the worst we could possibly get would be something like this.
The worse we could get.jpg

But still, if they do to the concept there's a pretty big chance that it will be something with more effort put into it like Sonica for example.

Role Swap stuff is different tho, Fleetway with its mirror world shows how bad you can fuck up the concept, the idea of the Mirror World was that Sonic and Robotnik swapped so it's kind of an anti-universe in that regard.

The idea of Sonic being an evil king makes sense and is actually a pretty good use of the concept but they fuck it by having him still use robots (and ones that look like another antagonist of the comic, The Drakons at that) and having both Amy and Tails be against him for some reason.
Wasted potential.png

They also don't even show the Kintobor (pre-transformation Robotnik aka good version of him) of the world which would have been really interesting to see.

The only interesting thing we see is that King Sonic's Super Form is actually a good guy which is pretty poetic to be honest, after all he is the main thing people care about in the continuity.

But that's enough of sperging about an old British comic book series that most people don't care about, the point was that Role Swapping is a concept that is easier to fuck.

But even the worse they could probably do is just something that's pretty shallow and mainly a joke which is probably what they're going to do but it's understandable because that's how it's mostly done.

But even still with those two examples, they would still be a lot better than a lot more generic concepts like having Sonic has a caveman where there isn't too much to them other than that core small idea.

My hope is that they would explore the clusterfuck that is Sonic's confusingly connected but supposedly distinct universes in the games canon, but Sega has been reluctant to go into detail about this topic for some reason so I wouldn't hold my breath on it.

So the storybook games (Secret Rings and Black Knight) and Blaze's dimension I presume, can't really think of any other alternate dimensions in the Sonic games other than those three.

I'll be honest and say I've only really played the 2D games (Genesis era + Mania) but in many ways i prefer the American Sonic CD soundtrack, Stardust Speedway bad future sounds more fitting in the USA soundtrack, and I feel the J/EU soundtrack is pretty overrated. Is it bad? no its pretty good, just not in my opinion God tier. I prefer the USA's more sinister tone of it's soundtrack.

If you like sinister tones mixed with Sonic Games, Sonic and The Black Knight has an amazing soundtrack which is worth a listen, even if you don’t play the game.

The J/EU soundtrack is probably overrated because of how it was in its era, plus the fact that for some reason Westerners are always like “Japan = superior” which leads to a lot of things being overrated when in reality they’re just good.

Did you forget about this travesty? His voice isn't what it used to be all those years ago.

In the initial promo for this movie his voice was a bit better iirc it was just the actual fucking thing that was dogshit. Really sucks the megaman one was actually an ok deal for a low budget fanmade short film and the initial teasers for this made it look like a step up only to take 50 steps back when it got delayed constantly and then sharted out claiming to be a "spec film" to hide how shit and half assed the final product was.
it still baffles me that they just used an army of badly greenscreened in cgi gammas instead of props for the badniks. Surely painting some boxes glued together in a certain way or making stormtrooper ass looking costumes isnt too hard?

I like both soundtracks, grew up with the US one, but it's really blatantly clear the original JP/EU soundtrack was made with the game in mind initially. It's kinda like the shit with the genesis/saturn versions of 3d blast where I just find the original one far more fitting, especially in 3d blast's case. in both cases the soundtracks feel kinda slower and non-fitting sometimes. Both saturn 3d blast and US sonic cd also replace the boss music with stock laugh samples with a little bit of music behind them for some unexplainable reason. Only exception to this weird dynamic in saturn 3d blastis it's exclusive special stage which is a remake of sonic 2 and has a fitting/funky song thats ALMOST but not quite a remix of sonic 2's special stage.

I want whatever the new TV series does to have older throwbacks to memeable moments in past Sonic games, the Sonic Boom tv series kinda touched on this area a little, but it was more kiddy centric and it was too few and far between, plus since they once attempted to have their own spin off universe alongside the Boom games (but fell completely flat in its face) and clearly aren't doing that shit now, they don't have much reason anymore not to draw upon past plot lines and stories that fans know and love, see the Sonic Battle and Adventure 1 and 2 in Sonic X for a better example, also have shit like this in it.

The series writers have backgrounds in writing a lot of newer shows like all the recycled Ben 10 series, so I won't have my hopes up very high, but a man can dream.

Also some of the talk about past fan films reminded me of this funny little film project that popped up a long time ago now, the Sonic Prologue fan film, which was an origin story about Sonic/Tales using the magic of source film maker, people back then could have only dreamed of having an actual Sonic Hollywood blockbuster film, so it's nice to see how far we've come.

Uhhhh, wut? Context please?

Also, we got our first look at Sonic Prime today:

That.....is not Roger Craig Smith. Sounds like him, but it isn't. Wonder who it is?
Well already i like him more than Roger Craig. This show isn't going to be good because frankly very rare anything netflix does is but i hope they at least consider keep Smith gone.

He really captures the same feeling of Jason Griffith and Ryan Drummond, it's way too early to be sure, but based off this one clip he already suits Sonic's personality more than any interpretation so far.
Roger Craig Smith is a good voice actor, but he's not a good fit for Sonic unless it's the Boom series. It's long overdue for a game recasting, especially for Shadow and Sonic as they really got the short end of the stick in terms of voice portrayals.

The Real Super Sonic mod for SA2 as gotten an update with Shadow along with other cool stuff like a Chaos Control movie.
It's nice that the book on both SA and now SA2 is playable Super forms can be closed.

Also on the topic of fan films, there were two Russian Sonic Ova 2 teaser videos both of which were never made into a real full film.

The first one was probably made as a joke and probably wasn't planned to be actually turned into a full film.

But man is the other one fucking weird, yet again I don't think it was planned to be turned into a full film but this time it was obviously made to just be an excuse to animate Sonic and his friend's feet.

Also, both of these were dubbed by the same channel as well, weird shit, man.

So, remember Zippo, who leaked the plans for the 30th anniversary, one of which was eventually revealed to be Sonic Origins? Remember how one of said plans was a new 2D game based on the Advance/Rush formula? Well, he's back, and he says that that project is alive and well, is actually being developed by Sonic Team themselves, features the Main Trio (Sonic/Tails/Knuckles) as playable characters, and is scheduled for a 2023 release. Considering Sonic Origins came to pass as he said, what are your thoughts on this? Me personally, I'm erring on the somewhat cautiously optimistic/mostly pessimistic side of things.
