Generations: Eggman shatters the space-time continuum, and Sonic has to go through classic levels to restore it.
Forces: Eggman has conquered the world with a reality-bending superweapon, and Sonic has to go through war-torn classic levels to restore it.
Frontiers: Sonic has lost his memory, and has to go through glitched classic levels to restore it.
Remember when the games were about exploring new locations? *sigh*

Okay how about classic levels, but

I hope they bring back some lesser focused on stages of that’s how they’re gonna be.
It would be interesting to see places like Secret Rings, Black Knight and Unleashed since those are pretty much always left out of these “throw back stages” :(
Or it would be great to have the stages be different eras in a way, have one be the Classics Era, another as the DreamCast/Heroes era, and other as the Modern Story era, and the last being the Modern Colors era with the stages basically being a mashup of all the games that were released. It would at least be a bit more creative than “nostalgia zone for the 50th time”

It makes sense when you consider that Frontiers was meant to release as the 30th anniversary title. I just hope the level design isn't 1:1 and that there's a fair amount of these things considering the game is meant to be 20+ hours long.

SA2 kind of did that.

Sonic Colors did this, but with extra steps.

Lost World just gave up and used an floating planet that stands out like an dangerhair at an Trump rally.
Space levels in Sonic games (IMO) are just overdone, not as much as "grassy 'Green Hill zone' like" levels, but they're pretty close.
  • Sonic 2 Genesis - Death Egg Zone
  • Sonic 3K - Death Egg Zone & The Doomsday
  • Sonic Drift 2 - Milky Way & Death Egg
  • Sonic 4 - Egg Station (ep 1) & Death Egg (ep 2)
  • Sonic Advance - X-Zone & The Moon
  • Sonic Advance 2 - XX & True Area 53
  • Sonic The Fighters - Deat Egg Eye & Death Egg Hangar

A racing spin-off, a fighting spin-off, and… 5 mainline games (6 if you split up Sonic 4) over the course of 30 years? That’s not really much.
Though now that I’m thinking about it, Adventure 2 and I think the first Rush also had space levels. Still, it’s one of the less used archetypes, especially given how many of those are the Death Egg, which has every reason to be in space.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=weA5Q4zQRYwA proposed sequel to Super Mario World on the CDi that got cancelled in favor of Hotel Mario.
The only reason why I would want to see a sequel or remake of the game is to see what they were really going to do with Weegee.

Also yeah the shit with PlayStation and the CDI is pretty funny, there are two potential alternate universe where the PlayStation was either a Nintendo or Sega console but if we got the got the former then we wouldn’t have the amazing CDI games as well.
