It was the first multi-port Sonic game, so it sort of makes sense. Also I'd rather not have an SA1 remake on an engine they have little to no experience with.

That'll most likely change in the final build (unless they want a C&D from Disney). On the topic of mobile games, there's two other mobile titles coming out as well: One for Netflix (Chao Guardians, I believe it's called) and a new Sega Superstars Tennis for Apple Arcade.

Honestly I wouldn't mind a heroes remake, that game has some massive flaws and a decent remake or remaster could really bring out it's potential, at least from a gameplay perspective but this is sega after all, i'm sure there will be some catch

It's got a great aesthetic, but it's too repetitive for its own good. Imagine Frontiers, but instead of merely doing the same gameplay loop for each island you simply play the same island again. That's it, you do that four times.

Which do you think Sega would rather remake? An iconic game with a unique concept but flawed execution (partially due to time/manpower constraints) that they can use as an opportunity to do it better this time, and that they can't rerelease as-is anyways because it's built on a third-party engine?

Or the games you can still buy right now that have incredibly dedicated fans who will fucking KyoAni them if they fuck up even a single detail?

If you wanted to botch it then all you'd need to do is re-release the same game. I've played it too when I was a kid and even then I realized that having to play the same game 4 fucking times to reach the end was a mistake.

That said, I'm super interested in knowing what a good version of SH would look like.

I remember renting that game back in the day. Holy shit it was so bad compared to the adventure games. I'm pretty sure sonic heroes was one of the very few games we actually returned early because nobody wanted to play it. I haven't touched a 3d sonic game since.
