Now I know you've probably heard about it - the ship of theseus - it's a thought experiment:

is " an object that has had all of its components replaced remains fundamentally the same object?".

Now fast forward to 2022, when a bunch of... Liz Fang Jones, Keffals, and co.... decided to do some really not nice things and try to take the site down. What do they all have in common? Apart from doing some weird things, they are all transgender.

Now fast forward even more - the year is let's say 2077. (We are living in Night City, completely useless information, fuck why did I use 2077). Okay, anyways biology is fucking wild now: you can get horse dicks and finally fuck roxanne wolf and juddy hopps from zootopia or something. Of course, gender reassignment surgery has advanded to the molecular level...

Now we have John. He's fucking weird. He has this obsession of turning into a girl (sound familiar?) and is very rich (he's the descendant of Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Jeffery Epstein, and John Mcafee, and Kohl - jesus, he's fucking rich, ok?). Now, how does he plan on doing this? Well you might remember the ship? Well...
  1. Get a woman (we'll call her jane)
  2. Transplant her organs (skin eyes, brain, just entire fucking body) slowly
  3. Become a women
You might be thinking... AMOOGUS, since Biology is so advanced, can't he just make a girl potion?
Well, fuck you, I got too lazy to think that out.

After the transplant John is now "Jane". He looks like, sounds like, and smells like Jane. His (wait would it be her? fuck) genetics are Jane.

Anyways, while this might sound like some fucking degenerate japanese doujin you would jack off to in some very undignified moments, this brings up the question:

is John now Jane?​

We could speed up the whole process by simply killing John and walking Jane over to where John was standing. I think at that point all you need to do is transfer to Jane all of John's legal documents/assets etc. Congrats Jane, you're a real woman!

The only way this would be remotely possible is if he changed his DNA completely. I don't doubt mankind is foolish enough to one-day attempt to re-write our genetic code in whatever ways we want. So there might come a day where John's DNA can be rewritten to make him "Jane," but physically he's liable to still be a horrid abomination. It won't matter how much of his code is changed, he'll still be a freak of nature.

this analogy only works for inanimate objects, which are no greater than the components they're comprised of. the sticking point with humanity is the consciousness. assuming the brain is the seat of consciousness, and such a transplant is possible, when you put Jane's brain in John's body, John becomes Jane. if you were somehow able to separate consciousness from flesh, and put John's consciousness inside Jane's body, Jane would become John. any way you conjugate it, assuming the success of the intended process, the final product is John, as John is the one who wants to live in the final body, meaning his desires, his will, his memories are the consciousness that survives the physical transformation process.
