Ah yes, Spanish Civil War saved Europe from the nazis. The same Spanish Civil War the nazis used to test the tactics that would be enormously effective against France and the British Expeditionary Force that were still stuck in the Western Front WW1 trench warfare defensive mentality.

As for the Mongols, Baghdad still hasn't recovered from the time it was sacked by them and it's been literal centuries.

Imagine you knew nothing about SA's culture or word filter. You'd think it was a website for diaper fetishists or something. Morbid curiosity gets the best of you, so you decide to join. And then you're greeted with screen asking you for your credit card info, because you have to pay to post there.

Not surprised to see GIP picking up KM's banner in the fight to make SA completely fucking sterilized and uninteresting.

Uncle Sam's little welfare queens got their own subforum way back when eating babies was frowned upon in other parts of the forum. They even let the pigs in! ...And then they chased the pigs out for being racist-by-association. Apparently nobody left in GIP sees the irony of literal murderers crying about someone else's job title.

Their current mod, McNally, is a "veteran" by virtue of previously being married to a lady soldier who, being so traumatized by whatever it is lady soldiers do (sex with not their husbands), off'd herself. Now, thanks to the lavish lifestyle afforded to him as a "surviving spouse" he patrols the forums full-time, zero'ing-in on "gendered insults" and precision-striking "bad faith posting".
 
If anything its interesting how American centric the world view actually is, USA is the worst country ever rather than just another flawed state and the latest in a long line of morally dubious superpowers.. Even their approach to nazism can only be articulated as a reaction to America.

TBF there wasn't a Baghdad to recover. The mongols not only razed the entire city, but then left for three days and then came back so they could catch out anyone who had been hiding and survived the first week-long orgy of death and kill them.

TBF, the irrigation system was already failing as the Ice Age ended and the region became drier. The soil was starting to become overloaded with salts because the land was primarily watered by runoff, and they had already been made to switch over to barley (a more salt tolerant crop with deeper roots) in large areas. It was never rebuilt because it the soil too far away from the river's flood plain (the annual floods would cause the salts to rise to the top, wash away saline soil, and replace it with new soil) was too salty from the previous irrigations to be productive enough to justify its rebuilding.

When the New Deal was implemented there was still a good amount of cultural shame over being "on the dole" so most benefits were distributed through makework programs - some necessary stuff like dam building got done but a lot of people got paid to just arbitrarily plant trees in fields or alphabetize redundant paperwork that was immediately thrown away upon completion.

Nothing would be more amazing than watching the Biden economic recovery plan force these people to go do agricultural work for a year. Anyone who is using their covid funemployment time to post "communism is good" catchphrases is obviously too stupid for education & needs something to do with their day. The power of a 77 year old man who grew up on a limited budget can't be overstated, even given the Democratic base. "Disabled? You look fine to me. Sounds like a bunch of malarkey."
