Also, permabans used to just say "user was banned" not "permabanned" on the post itself. Either this has changed since I left or its more evidence that this is a ruse.

They could have at least not faked the “(USER WAS BANNED FOR THIS POST)” notice to be missing the hyperlink and improperly worded.

Nah, the amount of dysfunction behind the scenes is legit that bad and has been so ever since that one time half the mods decided to quit in hopes Lowtax would somehow do what they say.

I‘ll accept I’m wrong if those aren’t all expunged by the end of the day with an accompanying sticky announcing that “This was all a drill, your beloved and unconditionally trusted mods and admins aren’t going anywhere, please love us and return to the status quo of yikes-ing at each other in Games threads.”

The joke will be on them when a QCS threadnaught spawns with some troon saying he was so triggered that he started duct-taping his exit bag into place because he thought he was about to lose yet another safe space.
