Has anyone asked Lowtax why didn't he just archive the old forum and make a new Something Awful forum with modern software? I get why he didn't bother updating the site, I know shit about web dev but I can imagine maintaining software is a hassle.

It's just hilarious to me that I can load up SA on my phone and it has a desktop display. How hilariously antiquated and out of touch.

There also was XyloJW in the admin role for a while, but he left somewhere circa 2015 and now only is active on twitter as just another interchangeable DSA type with pronouns on his profile. Was the most active admin for a while after Ozma finally left after she pissed off the troon crowd she had helped foster.

Also because I suspect a large number of users won't bother to migrate to the new forums and he'll lose a lot of posters. Even if he figures out how to keep the same user account data and clone all old accounts to the new software (nowhere near as easy as it sounds, especially given SA's broken and undocumented codebase), there will be plenty of shrieking troons who will be OMG so traumatised that they cant post in their hugbox megathread and start a new one where people might not know how important they are to the megathread community by virtue of their thousands of white-noise posts that they might not be able to even.

Also, SA's community is rabidly against most modern forum features, such as any form of post voting. Supposedly this is to prevent dogpiling of unpopular ideas, but that happens anyway - I suspect that it may also become apparent that even at this late stage the dangerhairs really don't want to know how many people actually disagree with them, and it's harder to ban someone for just downvoting right-think than actively posting wrongthink - it's the whole SJW tactic of trying to control the discourse when you don't control the votes. It also contributes to the notorious SA "white noise" posting problem. Because you can't just pos/neg rate a post like you can most other places, you have to devote a whole post to saying that you agree/disagree with the last post and you get horribly unreadable threads with pointless zero-content posts ("This! So much this" or "This is a bad post and you should feel bad for making it") taking up 90% of the space between actual ideas.

As @Spunt said, if there are any major changes in SA you will lose tons of inertia posters. Possibly enough SA will only make double it operating costs each month instead of triple. And while it looks like Lowtax has actually been uploading videos as promised, Ambien and Wine will ensure that won't keep up and his "spine" will have another "issue" where the only known treatment is the liberal application of goonbux.

Pretty much. SA has a bunch of lurkers, and they correctly suspect that enabling up/down votes will let that quiet majority make their voices heard. No one in their right mind is going post on SA in TYOL 2019 try to argue against someone posting "Stalin did nothing wrong, he only sent a few counter revolutionaries to places they couldn't cause trouble." in the commie thread or "We need to put all children on hormone blockers until they are old enough to make a decision about their gender" in the tranny thread because they'll see everyone else who tries getting dogpiled, probed for thread shitting or concern trolling, and then banned for something they posted 12 years ago.
But you enable upvotes, people can upvote and downvote posts without incuring the wrath of the tranny majority, since its also hard to tell if the upvote/downvote was ironic or not. It also lets the opposition say "just because the dozen mentally ill faggots who post 24/7 in this thread are dogpiling with ad hominem attacks, obviously more people agree with me than you".

ZDR and FAU both came from the Imp Zone which was tied to the Games subforum and developed a baby clique there. It was mini FYAD and barely talked about games as time went on.

They tried to differentiate themselves from FYAD like having the trolls face off with each other in games to contest bans or probations. But the only time this happened was once and it was in Doom. IIRC there were some issues with Black Baby Goku trying to get a stable connection because he was supposed to offer commentary.

Most of the OG Impzone posters are perma banned or banned and never came back. The subforum went to shit around the time the Alison Rapp story happened because FAU wanted to defend his nintendo mi'lady.

Mind you Imp Zone for a good long time had the Bowser N*GGERS profile tag as a joke. The Catalyst of FAU becoming a fucking faggot was most definitely the Rapp story.
