There is an old lady who plays Skyrim too much, but she's still very much alive and was invited by bethesda to have her face scanned and recorded some lines so she could be the Innkeeper to the first town in the next Elder Scrolls game.

Yeah she used to stream it a good bit from what I recall. Seemed like a pretty cool old lady tbh.

It's concern trolling but it's pretty effective.

If you complain about them shitting on the thread you are an insane death hungry psychopath.
If you point out they are concern trolling they just say you are a monster for thinking concern for life could ever be trolling.
If you argue with them at all it just helps them shit up the thread to get it closed faster.

The same people used it to shut down over a dozen different popular megathreads on anything from tumblr to video games to fat people. I'm surprised Everest is allowed back to be honest. It's a strange reversal of years of ZDR/FAU smothering the only funny content on the website because a small group of irony poisoned posters don't like it.
This is a popular tactic on pretty much all internet forums. How effective it is depends upon the moderation. Here on KF it is a lot harder to do than a tightly moderated hugbox like SA, but it happens here too, pretty much exactly like you've described.

I've complained about a couple users here doing that very clearly on purpose on abortion threads here. Although A&H threads touching upon women at all tend to get similar treatment.

I've said it before but it's especially effective on SA. Accuse someone of arguing in bad faith and bam, instant victory if you're popular, and you no longer have to answer anything posed to you. It's an unbelievably shitty method of controlling discussion, but the mods are a bunch of pussies and won't reign it in.

Oh sure, mod sass gets you banned. Fucking lol.

I've had a friend of mine that also browses KF tell me that KF is basically what old SA was, do you agree with that?

I've been on SA for a little over a decade (not that I really post anymore because of all the reasons itt) and I'd say mostly yeah.

Even old SA had some capricious rules so I don't entirely agree.

Yeah, SA was definitely a bit more strict but you could in general get away with a lot of shit if it was well written or just plain funny. It was always tempting fate to post in a Lowtax thread in the early days as well, cause well it's Lowtax. The rules even eased up a little before the Ozma/Ice Queen era really set in.

I joined SA around 2005 and I used to like reading Helldump and threads that were essentially about lolcows (that girl with the baby that only had half a brain? and the dollfucker guy. Shit like that.) It was also interesting when something big happened like at Virginia Tech because chances were that there would be a random goon at the scene.

But yeah, the rules back then were way more strict than on here. You could get banned for picking the wrong thread tag or posting a catchphrase. HOWEVER goons are pretty fucking stupid, as evidenced by the spamming of awesome face so maybe it kinda worked for a while? idk. I prefer here, anyway.

Kiwifarms seems like vintage SA for a bunch of reasons, a couple of which you pointed out.

SA was always more strict and never had as much focus on helldumping as Kiwifarms does but I think the core thing people pick up on is that you can actually have a discussion here. I think when SA was still massively popular and had 10x the posters there were simply too many people for the faggot moderators to crush under their heel so you had more interesting and varied threads with a lot of different viewpoints.

Kiwifarms does this by having an actual good moderation system which is extremely hands off and only steps in when appropriate for severe forum affecting issues. There are anti-trump people arguing in the TDS thread without being punished. There are pro-pitbull people arguing in the pitbull thread. It makes for interesting reading where topics are actually explored and you fucking learn things by reading about them.

SA morphed into some weird neo-feudalist posting environment where your local posting subforum/fiefdom has a dictator lord you have to appease who gets to approve or disapprove of you as a person and everything you say. Filtering discussion down to what a few dozen people want it to be with 24/7 oversight and swift punishment for literally any reason they can think of and no one is allowed to question this in any way without being punished. Discussion isn't really the point anymore and it's just a purity test for the mods/posters to decide what discussion and people should exist. Surprise, this is a dull, boring and never ending process that just makes a worse forum that nobody wants to read.

It's funny seeing FAU still doubling down on the smug assured stance that SA just needs to ban more people to become popular again. "Getting rid of the people who suck" never ends because there is no real definition for "people who suck." They are just locked in this dumbass mentality that a moderator is responsible for the entire concept of discussion who gets to choose who speaks and what they say that will also somehow die Crank-Style if they don't punish someone regularly enough.

The only reason Kiwifarms hasn't taken most of SA's posters already is that the vast majority of the remaining ones there are so insecure and autistic they can't co-exist with thoughts and ideas they don't agree with after decades of having a curated safespace constructed brick by brick around them. Yeah I don't agree with some things on Kiwifarms, so I just don't read about them. On SA "Don't Like it Don't Read It" became a meme used by the people who throw apoplectic fits demanding people/content be removed to mock the concept that they shouldn't be throwing huge fits and executing posters/viewpoints by the thousands.

This post is awesome and very insightful, thank you for posting cool guy 😎.

i mean we have trannies, furries and neko shota hurtcore faggots running the place, sooooo
Yeah but they seem to be able to take sass without resorting to the iron fist of autistic banning. Something Awful has the most pathetic user base on the internet. Diaper perverts are more respectable (i'm sure there's some overlap there, though)

More sass. Some do resort to the iron fist of autistic banning if you go against one of their protected class posters. And just like on SA, those ultra touchy admins are FTM trannies and insane leftist feminists.

But KF is a billion times better than other forums that way. I guess maybe the only people trying to be forum mods are maladjusted wannabe tyrants? For example, I think I would make a good forum mod.

Meanwhile, back on SA...
