90% of the thread is sucking dick. Unlike in the cat thread, there's literally no reason for anyone to post publicly that they've bought an upgrade or made a donation.

I don't get why people are begging on Lowtax's behalf. The guy has done nothing for the forums in almost twenty years and he wasn't responsible for starting them. The community is what generates things worth reading and it's what drew people to the forums in the first place. Lowtax is just the faggot paying the hosting costs.
You can't even say he is responsible for the front page since pretty early on he started using other writers that were 100x funnier than he was and they started writing the movie/game/hentai reviews that got shared a lot and drew in people. Even the Awful Links of the Day were just people sending them to him and then he would link to them, drawing views for his site based on how terrible other people's content was. Shmorky made the flash tub which was a draw before he was outed as a babyfur pedo. The forums made photoshop phridays a thing. The forums did the goon rushes and the Weekly Web. The forums made the goon groups that drew attention in other games.
If he had died and his bank account automatically received forums profits and automatically paid forums costs it would actually run the forums better than Lowtax because it wouldn't be supporting an unemployed addict's two families and twenty years of leisure.
Even if I were willing to spend money to help Something Awful, Lowtax posting about his sweet $100 hearthstone pulls on twitter during one of his recent beg threads would make me reconsider. I'm not paying to ensure the forums run smoothly or paying for an upgrade I'm paying for a middle aged midwesterner to have more disposable income. If I wanted to support liquor stores I'd just buy the liquor for myself.

Everyone's supposed to feel guilty because he owes a shitload in taxes, has been pulling money out of his retirement to keep the forums afloat, and has a $7,000 deductible on his health insurance.
Goons are in no way responsible for any of those things and nor will goon donations solve those problems.

Way back in the day Lowtax and crew would make front page updates all the time about how the site wasn't profitable, how their ads weren't making any money (or how the adman had been scamming them) and bandwidth was expensive, how living in their shitty apartments was hell, etc. And you know what, it was real and it was funny. Really funny, when I think of the front page I think of stuff like "Go Away Week", even decades later. Of course back then Lowtax hadn't pissed away a million bucks and multiple McMansions, nor had he shot out 2 ill advised children (and one reasonable one) to women who do not work and certainly do not love him.

This is rich given that Lowtax was banning people a few days back for disagreeing with him about a dog breed, and told a guy to leave SA and go to twitter, he apparently doesn't care enough about his medical expenses to not expel customers for petty bullshit.
It's really kind of Lowtax to show goons that SA is a waste of time and that twitter is a better option, a less honest man would try to preserve users of his only means of income despite knowing that there are better places for them.
Maybe he and his wife can move to twitter, too.

It's advanced osteoarthritis. Cartilage degenerates until joints are grinding bone on bone. The spurs grow as a result and then chips/fluid build up happen as a result of the spurs grinding into each other.
It's degenerative and doesn't require any trauma or injury since it's just a breakdown of the joints from simply operating. Also tens of millions of people have it and he should have been getting surgeries and doing physical therapy years ago. Instead he laid on a couch until his limbs quit working because the bone spurs are so bad they are now interfering with his nerves and damaging his discs.
Unfortunately for Lowtax this isn't going to go away, the surgeries are only going to address some of the symptoms and he will need them periodically in addition to physical therapy. What he needs is a job with health insurance but it looks like he would rather try and scam the idiots on his forums by making everyone think that he is simultaneously paying to keep them open with a magical source of personal money after 20 years of unemployment and that giving him money is helping the forums somehow.
It's working because every thread I read has someone acting like Lowtax was struck down in honorable combat and needs everyone to come together to stop Something Awful's imminent shutdown. Really they are going to be brought down because Lowtax is a giant parasite that has refused to develop them and siphons all of the funding into his lazy addict lifestyle and dumb decisions.

Well at least I am sure an upstanding, disciplined and hard-working guy like Lowtax won't end up abusing the pain medication he's going to get and won't become addicted, like some people in such cases do. Even if he does, I am sure he'll have enough self-reflection and be honest enough to himself to realize what path he is going down and will get the help he need.
The thing also is, Lowtax doesn't deserve any donations because he hasn't done anything with the forums besides cashing in. Even people posting in his thread probably added more positive (as in: help building the community) content to his forums than him in the last ten years.

Over in the SA Let's Players thread I just summarised a video from a year ago made by the Retsupurae guys, Slowbeef and Diabetus.
For anyone that doesn't know, they're a pair of (kind of ex-)goons (neither of them post on SA anymore and Diabetus nuked his account) that are semi-Youtube famous for making humorous commentary/let's play videos.
Also, Slowbeef is an ex-mod and founder of the let's play subforum on SA.
In the video, Slowbeef talks about Lowtax either misremembering or lying about being proactive in the creation of the let's play subforum (when really, the mods decided to create it themselves). He also talks about Lowtax not keeping track of forum registrations until into Slowbeef's tenure as a moderator:
So, yeah. It isn't clear exactly when Lowtax started tracking registration stats because Slowbeef doesn't say, but the let's play subforum didn't exist until 2007 and, the way Slowbeef says it it, sounds like he'd been a mod for a while before they started taking account.
Also, I doubt that it was Lowtax that removed the spoiler banner, it was probably one of the other admins.

I wish I could find it but years ago like 10+ there was a goon who talked about self employment. He basically said he inherited a house and rented it.
Then he got paranoid "what if the house burns down?" so get got another rental house. (assume he leveraged the property he already had free and clear)
Then he worried "what if both house burn down I just make my money from houses"
So he bought a stake in a local business, I wanna say taxi for trucking or something.
Then the goon said his thoughts were "what if both house burn and the business fails the only thing I can truly count on is myself"
So the goon enrolled in college to become an accountant so he would have a fall back plan.
Typing this up I wondering if I read this on SA but like the goon in a well story there was a time when you could find good advice on that place.
