Not sure what game he's talking about, but for a while at least SA was the only place that was doing English let's plays of Danganronpa and so they put up the paywall on that and actually had quite a bunch of new goons join just for that alone. I imagine they were in for a surprise when and if they ventured into the rest of the forum though.
The LP sub should have instituted a no Danganrompa rule like the old no Pokémon rule. It might have stemmed the bleeding for a little while. The people that attracted was beyond horrible

Awful lot of categories that haven't been touched in several years, many of them at least in half a decade and some of them even a decade or longer. 31 of the 50 columns listed here have not been touched in at least 5 years. 32 if you count the nebulous "Fake Something Awfuls" section. That's over 60%. The columns marked with an asterisk are the ones featured in the website's header under the SA logo, and most of those haven't been touched in years as well. Those are the ones that are being put front and center to visitors.
I get that some of those categories are dead because their subjects have become irrelevant in modern culture (ICQ Pranks, Everquest) or were columns that belonged to a single specific writer (Awful Things For Sale, Johnston Checks In). But that doesn't account for the staggering majority of sections that literally anyone could pick up and contribute to. SA has general categories for all sorts of dumb internet shit like anime, gaming (modern and classic), viral videos, porn, music, social media, forums, etc. Everything. And it's not like some of these columns are hard to do. Weekend Web and Awful Link of the Day were community efforts to laugh at dumb websites and neither of those have been touched in a long time. The Great Goon Database was all local content, they didn't even have to find a different site to prowl, and that one's languished for 11 years.
I don't know what point I was trying to make with this post. I wasn't intending this to come off as another "lol SA is dead" post, but it's pretty telling that the content that the website was initially built on has just been left to rot.
Makes sense at this point. The people who run something awful at this point, don't really care about the site as a whole except as a way to enforce their views and domination on the other people paying money to be in the cool kids club
Old photoshop threads were also really, really good.They were also moderated and had rules, so that shitty photoshops didn't crap it up. SA had photoshop threads recently but they were all horribly unfunny and also very poorly executed. It's shit you can see in every craphole like 9gag and ifunny.

also back then you had to have some skills with the shop and a place to host there was a higher bar to making a shop and thus every half brained idea wouldnt get thrown around

This project looks really like a very big scam and goons have some really good analyses about the situation, which - no you'cant read 'literally anywhere else on the internet for free', except maybe you wait for the paywall to go done. The thread about Star Citizen is actually ok.

When SA started the majority of the audience was young men in their teens and 20s. It was fun to mock crazy internet losers. Fast forward 20 years and most of them have become what they mocked so when someone makes a thread making fun of a group of people it hits too close for many goons.
That is actually true to a degree, a guy and his wife threw a shit-fit in QCS about it when the change happened. It leaked over into Let's Play even cause she was doing a Mario Party Let's Play and basically said "I'm still doing the LP just come to this other site instead to follow it"
I see, but a mod bringing it up as an issue, and in the OP no less. is still quite telling. SA is fucked with people like that in charge. Lowtax should close the thread, change the mod's avatar to Trump ("Sad") and ban him. That would actually be funny.
This opinion came about because someone said Ghost of a Tale (a game with a warrior mouse like the Redwall series), looked good. It's the same old tired argument trotted out when people accuse Lord of the Rings as being racist because orcs are replacements for blacks.
What triggered this snowflake to get angry about a classic children's series in a videogame thread? Were they bullied by a Redwall fan as a child? Do they like rats and are triggered because Redwall characterizes rats and other vermin as violent psychopaths who kill innocents? Did they struggle to read as a child and Redwall was just the sour grapes they could never reach with a 3rd grade reading level?
I don't know. All I know is this is a terrible opinion and I now want to read Redwall out of spite.
