Lowtax forgets that SA came into being at a time when there were limited entertainment based websites and forums on the web. AOL was king partly because it spoonfed people content. Setting up and maintaining a website/forum was more expensive and more complicated than it is today, when people can set up their own community either free or at low cost on a wide range of platforms.

SA is stagnant and has been for a long time. The left as a group are largely unfunny, and SA can never be "a comedy website" (if there's even a demand for such a beast these days) while it continues to appease them.

Lowtax wants the exact opposite of Kiwi farms though. He wants a personal army to laugh and mock at the targets he chooses. Look at how much shit Null takes on these forums. The moment any kind of shade is thrown on Lowtax he goes on a ban rampage in retaliation.

He also wants low effort on his part. Second life raids and such required zero effort. The forums just handed him articles and therefore money. Those days are gone, and yeah social media was part of the problem. Nowadays you gotta work for good content. Even buzzfeed writers have to find their copy paste reddit posts themselves.

I think Kiwifarms is pretty much what lowtax wants (he's even said this in the schmorky thread here). Just read his posts in the "anti-social media service" thread on SA.
The problem is he's hamstrung by his lack of funds and the fact that key staff members of the site are holding it hostage.

To be fair, that DOES still give you plenty of targets, but yeah, that shit ain't gonna work.

I'd say definitely the latter. If Lowtax was willing to put the effort in (lol) he could convert the forums over to Xenforo for the cost of a Xenforo subscription and a few weeks worth of ambien and box wine to fuel him, but the userbase and admins would never ever allow the kind of mean-spirited humor an "anti-social site" would need to work.

See, that would be cool. Imagine reading a stupid post and clicking the little green frog button to rate it "Get out!" or something like that. And it would get rid of the situation I hated where goons would keep quoting your post 5, even 10 pages later just to chastise you for wrongthink. Just downvote, and move on. But then again the official SA rule is "if you don't like a thread, rate '1' and move on" and we see how well that worked.

I can see it being horribly abused though. Like maybe only troons and POCs being allowed to negrate posts, or bans for rating mod posts dumb. Or the mods and woke crew ganging up on people who rate wrong. Imagine the triggering if you were allowed to vote "disagree" on communist stuff.

You'd probably only be allowed to give positive or neutral ratings. And that still wouldn't work. Remember the guy here who had a massive meltdown over people rating him autistic?

They'd find a way to fuck it up, twist it, and bring it in line with the current forum environment and mindset, not use it to change things and improve the atmosphere.

He really should just start fresh. We know he doesn't have the money to ever properly migrate the monstrosity he has now over the Xenforo. Just create a new install and migrate the user base. The new forums would be filled with posts within days.

Also, post ratings would never happen. It would expose way too many people and hurt their fee fees. I also wouldn't want mods to be able to see who left certain post ratings. It would be too easy to create a "post rating spamming" rule or some nonsense to ban people.

It's been suggested many times over, but how attractive is SA to people without access to threads from the "golden era" of SA?

I wonder how much of a driving force to increasing membership the pirate forums were? (:powerlevel: It was the reason I joined anyway)

It was there in a pre-PirateBay time so it was probally quite a big draw.

LowT still desperately clings to the idea that SA is an edgy comedy forum, even when it clearly isn't. Separating the site from its funny legacy and starting fresh would force him to do the one thing he clearly wants to do the least: square up with the pozd out, unfunny monster his laziness has created.
