Why is my revenue down? Could it be that I let a mentally ill white woman from detroit the burbs invade threads and ban anyone who isn't down with #BLM trashing downtowns, and the rest of the pack of nu-males ban anyone right of Trotsky who has the temerity to say anything contrary to the D&D party line? Could it be my own thin-skinned beta inability to take a joke?

No, no, its obviously the fault of racists posting nigger and dune coon. Better make FAU an admin, that'll fix everything.

Lowtax should've taken that ten grand and gone down to the local community college and taken a few classes on welding, CNC machining, or PLC programming. Or any other high demand skill a future employer would want. Any job you could get with "18 years experience of being WACKYZANY Internet funnyman" on your resume would involve wearing a paper hat and asking "Want fries with that?"

Barring that, he could've bought a bitcoin miner and used it to mine bitcoin so he could buy ambien directly from the darkweb in bulk, saving him some money.

I’m losing money thanks to my shitty mods and admins. Better not do a damn thing about it.

This is classic, stubborn Lowtax. He knows what it will take to fix the forums but he won’t do it because it means admitting he made a mistake in selecting FAU as admin. He hasn’t changed in bit.

I think Lowtax's deal is that he just doesn't want to ever do anything at all. To the point where he doesn't know or care to know what the day to day on the forums looks like as long as someone else is dealing with it.

If spending 20 years living the goon dream of being drunk and high while playing videogames wasn't an indication of that the fact that his business is failing and his main concern is becoming a twitter celebrity by picking really stupid fights with popular people is. The extremely rare occasion that he shows up and talks about the forums he just repeats what the moderators tell him, namely that they had to close the most popular subforum because they hadn't been strict enough and mean people had killed the forums with their bad, unpunished opinions.

Kicking out any of the problem moderators is just a bandage at this point. It's been almost 20 years of his forums volunteers having no boss and unlimited discretion to target his customers however they see fit. You aren't getting the tens of thousands of people that have been driven away back and nobody new is coming to that kind of business. I started going there after finding out that it's basically a slow motion train crash I can watch.

I don't think anything will fix SA at this point. Any advice that would totally work is being given to someone who is either unwilling or unable to use it. Pick one.

Happy 18th birthday, Something Awful! You're now too old for most of the moderators to be interested!

Here's the thing a paid staff of content creators/managers would give him the "freedom" to not have to do anything. Hell sell 49% of his LLC and collect a few royalty checks.

I've power leveled before about being in a close but totally different situation as lowtax, (passive income) and just doing nothing is a very tempting option.

here is my question do video games even appeal to men in their 40 s with children?

I'm not sure if it's the appeal of video games themselves. It's more that he has infinite free time to fill with leisure activities since he refuses to actually do work.

At a certain point one of those guys that live with their parents into their 30s and 40s and play MMOs all day aren't actually excited about Grinding Simulator #103 and are just serving a mental illness with something familiar to them.

The only difference between someone like that and Lowtax is that his shitposting was funny enough that he accidentally created a self sustaining forums that paid him millions of dollars.

It's kind of funny that he is in the exact same place as the MMO addict in my example though. Eventually the parents retire or the forums die and they are stuck with no money and no job experience once the meal ticket evaporates. I call that his wife finds someone to pay the bills while he lives in a dumpster by 2020.

i'm old and have a child and still like video games but like everyone else my age you don't get much time to play them so all the plots, characters, cutscenes and shit go out the window. the games have to be short, tight and good or they go right in the bin. or they have to basically be board games that you can pick up and drop any time. so basically just bullet hells, simulators and turn-based strategies

I'm only 35 but sure they do, they're no different than any other visual hobby. It's just that instead of playing for 12h straight like a sperglord you pick them up and play when the kids are asleep, or when you go to sleep late on a weekend, or during lunch breaks if you got a portable. It's all about that time management.

Counter point, given that lowtax is huge failure who only got to the very marginal level of success he's at by a series of lucky breaks that succeeded despite his lack of ability to capitalize on them, him doing absolutely nothing for 2 decades was probably the best thing for SA.

That's a pretty good point. The type of person to lay in a drunken ambien haze for two decades probably isn't going to be giving something positive attention if they do actually get up off the couch.

That and the shitty moderation all stems from him. In the early days he was the original giant baby that kicked thousands of people out for the slightest reason. The only thing that stopped him was his apparent inability to accomplish anything since ruining his own meal ticket by being terrible is technically an accomplishment.

He honestly doesn't get that he actually has to compete now as opposed to his earlier goldmine. Why would a new user decide to join a badly designed web 2.0 gulag? There's no incentive at all and he doesn't seem to care about that at all.

I don't know what you are talking about. It sounds like an amazing business plan. Imagine, It's Reddit except it costs $10 to use it. As a bonus we let a bunch of ultra left liberals that are still crying about Donald Trump, white fragility and social justice ban you from the service whenever they want to.

The real savings is in how many stereotypes the authoritarian posting gods you must try to appease are simultaneously.

I'm in my thirties working on a terminal degree, but yes. A lot of the time they're built for adults. I do notice I have a lot less tolerance for bullshit in games and grinding unless the world is pretty or there is something in it for me. It also helps me to connect with family, since my brothers and I all play games and we live in different states. So it acts as a social activity as well.

I also notice I tend to stick to one game rather than jump around a lot like I used to.

Literally paying to be scolded, it's like a form of a badly created findom with a declining pool of paypigs. The mods don't care because they get to exercise a petty form of power but lowtax can't make the connection between his mod team and his declining fortunes. Sad.

Man I wish I could get a patreon for doing as little as possible.

Worse than that, he can and does make the connection but lacks the drive to do anything about it.

Also, if you are running a commercial venture and someone offers to work for you without payment, it’s usually someone with an ulterior motive.

You know, Lowtax used to give to us SASSholes shit like saying we were just a bunch of pants shitting IRC trolls trying to run him down for no other reason than being banned from a forum (which is demonstratively untrue, but whatevs), but all the shit Lowtax has discovered about his forum in the past couple of years, like how incompetent Radium was and what a fuckin' sicko Schmorky was; we were taking about that back in 2007!

It just seems to me that if he payed a little more attention to SASS, it could've said him a whole lotta heartache in the long run, but Lowtax's fragile little ego just could not accept the fact that the people talking garbage about him might actually have a point!

And imagine being such a hot mess that thinking an abusive, yarn wig wearing, diaperfur tranny and his schizo g/f are fine wholesome people you wanna let into your life.

In all fairness, Shmorky didn't start wearing that wig until much later than that. We only made fun of him because he only knew three jokes and accepted a lowball offer in his lawsuit. The radium shit was just so obvious though. So much of it seeped through, along with the ridiculous mod team response to it, that its what lead me and probably a lot of other people to SASS in the first place.
