You guys are right, I phrased that in a fucked up way. Lowtax seems to be a good dad in the emotional and supportive sense, I don't doubt he loves his kids and does his best for them. Whether or not he's terrible at providing for them is another thing altogether that doesn't relate to his quality as a father and I crossed a line.

I will only post things are are confirmed by fact and aren't off topic from now on, like the fact that FAU is a rare yellowbellied bitch bird, known for its elusiveness and the copious trail of shit it leaves behind.

From what I'm getting in all the talk about fees and costs of avatars and bans and shit is that the only people left are the re.tards that want to be there, and have enough income to keep shelling out the $. The more a goon is banned, the more money gets thrown in, and the vested interest gets higher and higher.

Bad moderation might simply be a way to weed out the poor. Sure, Taxman probably isn't making nearly enough as he used to with new regs and shit, but what's left is a pretty stable source of income with each and every ban/rebuy.

Why fix bad moderation when it's probably the only reason people keep dropping more $ into the dying wreck just to get their shit back.

I don't think it's even the true believers keeping it going so much as the genuinely mentally ill. There was an episode last year where some Canuck nutcase known as Dare registered hundreds of accounts to post schizophrenic nonsense; this went on nonstop over a period of several months until I assume he ran out of whatever reserve of money he was using to do it. The hilarious part is the admins were powerless to actually stop this.

I don't think people do re-reg at the same rate as they did before. I know people have tried to track it over time, but not consistently.

Even 5 years ago, I would probably have re-regged if I got banned. Perhaps not all the bells and whistles, but at least the basic tenbux. 5 years ago, I rebought accounts for people who were banned more than once (this was a really common thing for goons to do at one time). I would do neither now and a lot of other people feel the same way. We're not going to flounce with a banme, but SA isn't where we spend most of our time online anymore and being banished from SA or SA disappearing entirely wouldn't have much of an impact on our online lives now. The hug boxers and people in the niche forums would probably miss it most, but they'd quickly find somewhere new.

For me, SA has become like that one channel in your cable package that you finally get rid of because you realise it's not worth keeping for the amount of time you use it.

Despite my wordwalls I actually hadn't considered this.

I was arguing from the point of stopping the decline and improving the site through elimination of bad moderation, but you are right and it could just be a matter of there being a rock bottom in terms of members that can support the website in perpetuity if supplemented by bad moderation. Autism is a renewable resource after all.

This descent if the forums isn't really anything new. The site usually bleeds members slowly as people lose interest, punctuated by these upheavals where they shed multiple members at once. Those accounts still exist, bloating the registered account number, but they're not producing content that attracts new customers or paying revenue directly.

Like Lowtax does not seem to understand that he owns a business, that it should make money, or that if he hates his job so much he could sell the forums to some turbosperg on D&D for at least enough to retrain in another career.

Literally anything, anything at all, would be better than nothing. It's actually something people are researching, that a neglectful boss who refuses to communicate is worse than one who is actively abusive, and the disorganization it causes fucks everything up from the top down.

Basically Lowtax would be better served telling everyone to fuck off or fall in line, but he refuses to engage at all.

Over the years when people would point to Alexa rankings as evidence that SA needed to be fixed Lowtax/syncophant goons would dismiss it as "well Alexa tracks site rankings by people who have the Alexa toolbar installed and goons are way too smart to have a toolbar like that installed, the site's doing just fine, pay no attention to the man behind the curtain, etc."

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure Alexa hasn't done rankings using that method in years, right?
