That's what made Doobie such an amazing lolcow. Goons canceled Christmas for Doobie and one mod probated people who dared question the frog dog. Doobie was to be a SA triumph. Something to make them all feel great about themselves. Something that mattered.

In the end it turned out Doobie was totally clueless and doomed to fail. And his wife was a nasty homophobe.

A modern GBS classic.

I remember back when Helldump was big, SA used to do it predominantly to hurt random people for no eminently justifiable reason, something that got worse and worse as time went on. At the height of it, it was routinely being used as a political weapon and often being used as the first part of a harassment campaign against people some faggot or another didn't like. Inevitably, this shit was also used for cliquebuilding and trying to secure ideological purity within SA, and that's all shit that happened well before it was inevitably shut down.

But it didn't start that way.

Basically, it got taken over like every other aspect of the site.

Yep. They had like 3 or 4 funny targets and harassed the shit out of them till they went to ground and ceased to provide entertainment. Then they just turned on anyone they didn't like. If it was around now it'd be the SJW groupthinkers running it and shaming people for their wrongthink. It was that sort of clique.

I found we mostly do it for five reasons in order of increasing likelihood:

1. They ask us to (Eden Belmont)

2. They're posing a risk to themselves/others and/or breaking the law (Chloe Sagal, Greta Gustava, etc) or are pedophiles/sex offenders (Nick Bate)

3. They're an insane idiot who believes they will literally die if exposed and/or lives in mortal fear of being murdered by people they've never heard of and will never meet (Jake Alley, Felisha)

4. They're actively trollshielding/supporting/aiding existing cancer-tier lolcows (Norasphere, TLL)

5. It's someone who will chimp the fuck out on a biblical scale just because their personal information is now available to people who will do fuck all with this information (Crystal Hall)

There's plenty of overlap, and there's many exceptions, but these are the most common reasons.
