And another thing: Finagler

Finagler was supposedly the OG SA oldfag. His claim to fame as a poster during the early years of SA was the fact that he was really fucking old compared to the majority of early 2000s users. I don't really know if he was notable for anything other than being old. He's probably been dead for a long while.

Wasn't he the old guy who was a cop in Chicago in the 70s? If he was still alive he would have been banned during the fiery but mostly peaceful summer of 2020.

I'm going moderately defend Tokaii much as I did at the time:
Eskimos have 17 words for "snow" because they see so much of the shit they have a word to describe every variation of "snow". The midwest gets a lot of snow but they pretty much just have "snow" "sleet" and "blizzard". People in the south & california only have one for snow: snow OHMYGODTHEWORLDISENDINGBUYALLTHEBREADANDMILKWHATISTHISWHATDIDWEDOTODESERVETHISGODHASFORSAKENUSIHAVENOCHOICEIAMGOINGTOPLOWINTOTHREEOTHERCARSANDTHENTHISTREE

He was a Chicago cop and saw some shit, and when you see a bunch of sex crimes, you start to rank the severity. So in his mind there is a difference between a guy who just chases jailbait and a dude raping five year olds (and younger) because he has seen enough to need to draw that distinction while the rest us of blessedly have not. So yeah, Pedophile with a dictionary and all but I'm going to give Tokaii the benefit of the doubt and he's technically correct - dude was creeper but there's definitely worse and people needed to stop having the pearl clutching offendolympics over it.
That was a case were some extended probes to let discussion move on would have been not out of line.

Also @AmpleApricots points out, the real reason he was banned was Tokaii was calling those who sexually pursue under those under 15 as mentally aberrant, and would fall under "Mod Sass".

That was such a fun mess. Everyone telling him to call a contractor immediately after seeing the mess he made of the joists, and he willfully stuck his fingers in his ears and kept shouting while replacing a nice contemporary bathroom with whatever the bordello threw out a couple decades ago.

My favorite thread has to still be the Zip Line of Death(tm). Not much left of that on the Internet anymore - but a goon was tasked with making something for kids to enjoy and he built a huge tower atop of a hill with enormous grade, and would have had these kids gliding down at something like 45mph.


I wasn't active by 2010, but I remember seeing this mess - possibly by proxy.
