The fact that Something Awful is still going is something that nobody can give a good explanation for.
As the hosting cost goes down and the userbase gets more and more insular SA will probably stay around until the last user that joined in 2010-ish dies off. Just a cycle of users taking turns being power hungry mods running off a free AWS instance.

Lol we got some nigga trying to do some TOXX.gif shit on KF now...

Please explain why this is a bad idea and leads down some dark paths to these fools.

There are forums I used to actively post on in the early 2000s that are still up and running with like ten members, none of whom were on the sites back in their heyday. SA will be around forever.

I do think somebody will try to keep running SA if Jeff sells it well into the 2030's but only because they are one of the rich weird spergs of the original LF who blame the downfall of SA for inadequate amount of Maoist Third-Worldism instead of you know, having insane people run the asylum for the sake of appeasing the whims of people who love nothing more than getting offended will end up buying it for a bit in hopes that it might ensure Bernie Sanders getting elected in 2036.
That's the issue, though. Jeff paid like (allegedly) $400,000 for it (and it's 100% not worth that).

The likely hood of another moron buying it from Jeff is astronomical. If Jeff gets bored, it's well within his right to just turn it off.

I didn't think it would outlast Something Stupid, but that fatboy got his feelings hurt about antisemitism and his wife's canoo trip and turned it off to go play with his legos.

Whenever you browse an old forum thread (and this is *any* nerd community) you can tell who still posts there by who's changed their profile pic to some uggo troon fursona.

Every single oldschool goon I know is exactly liek this. "Boy those old days where I did lots of bad stuff but we're all better than that now aahahahahha'.

They all do it.
They hope that by doing the troll’s remorse routine, they can get in front of whatever they posted and be given a pass. I’ve seen it all over various forums over the years. It’s pathetic.
I wonder through....what would be the tipping point of death for SA? I assume it’s already been hit but people seem to keep using it. When daily usage is less than 1k people? Under 500? When the site is just nothing more then D&D/CSPAM with every poster having their own mod?
SA will keep limping along until the last troon 41%’s xyrself. Even if Jeffrey pulls the plug, there will be another attempt at one. It’s become a routine habit to post there for a few dozen people and they’ll keep it going. It’ll be a faggy version of those Japanese soldiers in the 1970s thinking World War II is still going on.

They're like snooty ex-drunks sneering at people who do what they used to do, and act superior even to (most) people who were never drunks in the first place.

Except there was never anything wrong with being funny in the first place.

I find that most people that suffer from troll remorse are just prideful. They've got it in their heads that their trolling was not only "mean" but prevented them from doing something great with their lives. News flash, doing silly stuff on the Internet was probably the best use of their time. They're not saving the world or curing cancer. Not these dumb fucks.

Like Japanese holdouts but with even more unwarranted self importance.

In 2054, at a tiny corner of the post-singularity neural web network, there will be two greasy geriatric faggots in pods wearing dresses and rocking skullets with bad dye jobs asking each other if they have stairs.
