Speculating:
SA was profitable, but no where near as profitable as it was in its heyday. When we ignore the patreon income Richard was raking in until that dried up when he beat the mormon cokewhore (abandoning his wife for a month to fly out of state to fuck said coke whore, forcing his wife into a shelter, and locking her passport in a safe is completely find with most SA posters, per patreon funding levels)

SA as a business LLC was making about triple its operating costs, but income was dropping. It was still making about 6K/mo gross and 4K/mo net - and 48K in bumfuck Missouri goes a long way. A competent person could have also restarted SA's flagging Ad sales - back in the prime it was making over $100,000 just from the ads (I mean the real ones, not the goon sponsored ones) but even in TYOL 2019 you could have probably made another $50,000 a year with some leg work.

So Jeff-o paid ~10 years worth of income when he bought SA, which is a fairly common standard for buying a business. Lowtax got taken to the cleaners, because I think he really let the "assets" of the name & domain go way too cheaply.

But Low-T probably didn't negotiate too hard because he was a pill head and just needed enough money to last him until Mommy died and he got his inheritance.
