And the next day, I decided I could set them aside for another, and I kept doing that until I didn't have the impulse anymore.

It's not an exaggeration to say that that one act of kindness kept me alive, and I'll never forget it.

How have Something Awful and its posters helped you and improved your life?

(Let's keep this a shitpost-free zone, please. I know it's tradition but a lot of us are feeling a little melancholy right now and we could use some unalloyed positivity!)

It reminds me of ResetERA and their notorious bans for "dismissing concerns of" whatever ism/obia the other poster was shrieking about by telling them maybe it's not as bad as they say. Thus it becomes an expressly bannable offence to not only not be utterly hysterical about everything, but also to be any less hysterical than any other poster. It's a remarkable way of distilling high-purity crazy, you just boil all the sanity off until you're left with the real hard stuff. Like when Stalin would get 30-minute standing ovations for his speeches because the KGB would drag away whoever was the first to stop clapping.

SA managed the same thing without needing the mods and forum rules to guide it. It's impressive, the same way that the Charge of the Light Brigade was impressive.
 
Looking through the Doomsday Economics and Asia/Oceania threads over at CSPAM and both are a whirlwind of goons sucking off Chairman Xi and China, especially now that the bugmen are getting antsy over Nancy "Big Mommy Powdered Milkers" Pelosi jetting off to Taiwan for some ice cream and a few photo ops.

Sometimes it feels like I'm looking at r/sino rather than the allegedly deadest, gayest forums on the web.

It's the same tankie contradiction that you get in a lot of online circles these days. They dislike what the United States is doing, so they wax poetic about the only potential competitor the United States has on the world stage. They post infographics and research about China which paint a rosier picture of it, while ignoring/dismissing the fact that it's exponentially harder to get accurate information from China due to their rampant censorship. And, of course, they venerate Xi for welding covid sufferers in their houses because, to all sufficient radicals who wax poetic about freedom and dissent, their favored form of government is an authoritarian regime which serves their interests.
 
Meanwhile, on Twitter, there's somebody called @SA__moment, who, as the name suggests, posts classic SA moments. Kinda like a lamer version of what this thread is doing.

Now, the other day, the guy came out as former Something Awful user Guy Mann, and in typical goon fashion, he made a whole thread about it, typing with one hand as he was wringing with the other.

Guy Mann appropriating this suffering is beyond the pale for them as they happily return to equating their own situation to the holocaust.

Some of the higher profile goons who use Twitter were mocking the Crazy ass moments because it seemed really cringey and obviously being used to pursue decades old forum grudges:

More context on this, Brigador is a well liked game made by a former goon called Gausswerks.

Mandalore Gaming did a video on it which is usually a good sign:

Guy Mann, the fucking moron loser behind this twitter account, is notorious for being absolutely desperate to cancel Gausswerks because he posted some unwoke stuff in the past, he was part of a huge outrage on somethingawful over this that wrecked the game company behind Brigador for a while and guess what? With his newly found miniscule amount of clout from vamping off memorable somethingawful moments on Twitter he's taking another crack at trying to publically cancel Gausswerks, for seemingly no reason at all other than he can't drop anything:
