It's scary how similar to tumblr modern SA is. Everything from the faggy "posting pals" to having to remind posters to take care of themselves like they are children is the exact shit you would see from a 16 year old girl on tumblr. something about this piqued my curiosity so now i have articulated a hopefully interesting post.

shear modulus is a moderator for debate & discussion which as anyone familiar with somethingawful in any way knows is the biggest cesspit on the website. there appears to be an entirely new, tabulated code of law in place for moderating that subforum now.

after a little digging, and noting that probations are doled out relentlessly, the net effect is quite amusing. the rules of d&d, down to the way they are listed, seem to be designed to harass the entire rotten culture off the website.

the first sentence of every point is left unspoilered, and the full description that follows the rule is spoilered. spoilered text is not indexable by search functions, as i understand, meaning this whole thing is custom designed to be as fucking annoying as possible to everyone posting in d&d. if you get probated for being tedious and irritating, everyone can tell instantly because the law is put right in there, and by its very nature, makes it all the more complicated to appeal.

in short, it makes it impossible for anyone to think or to discuss anything. which, yes, generally that is a bad sign for any forum, but on somethingawful...

on one hand, this is brilliant: harass and waste people's time until they just fuck off in seething frustration. d&d, and c-spam, have not been about real conversation... probably ever. it's a collective consciousness of terminally online nutcases whipping each other into bigger and more vicious frenzies - a lot like gab. apply these rules to any other forum, sa or not, and you'll have big problems, but preventing people from speaking at all in d&d is paradoxically a huge step up.

harass the current culture out of existence without shutting it down and dfe'ing and having them seep into every other forum to spread their filth.

now, i don't credit jeffrey for anything. rehabilitating sa's public image is not doable simply by the company they keep. somethingawful is a dead gay forum, and will, in my opinion, continue to be treated as a fossil.
