I don't think they ever actually adopted 10mm, did they?
I know they created the .40 Short and Weak to match their purses and then finally went down to 9mm a couple years back after realizing they were too limp-wristed for even that.
But yeah, modern 9mm is good enough that it's not worth worrying about. There will always be some contrived scenario where any handgun caliber will lack penetration depth.
They adopted the S&W 1076 in 10mm for a couple of years but were already loading 10mm down to what would become .40 levels by that point. The 1076 had its own issues because it was a kludge designed around the FBI basically wanting a 10mm P220 except SIG didn't make one at the time and agents complained about it being too heavy so they went back to 9mm for a short while and then came up with .40 because it would match what they were already loading 10mm to anyway but fit in handlets' hands better
