Founded as the CWCki Forums, and originally dedicated to Christian Weston Chandler, the Kiwi Farms is about eccentrics on the Internet. These people are commonly referred to as Lolcows and are fascinating for reasons distinct to each spectator. We document the phenomenon, with every member bringing different perspectives and opinions to discussion. It is this diversity which has caused our peculiar community to thrive.

Kiwi Farms started as just a forum for the CWCki. There was a pretty big dry spell for a few years since Chris was inactive and it became less about following Chris and probably something closer to your community. Eventually Null took over and there was effort to gradually make it less Chris-based and more of a community that follows lolcows in general. After it started to become a hub for people interested in internet eccentrics/cows it was renamed to "Kiwi Farms". The name refers to what a lot of cows used to call the CWCki forums as either a joke or they just couldn't pronounce it. Mods are generally needed because when you have threads entirely dedicated to strange people on the internet you'll get blatant and extreme cases of trollshielding ("Chris gives us people with autism a bad name. I only shit myself half as much as him."), a-logging (seriously meaning it when you say"I hope this lolcow gets raped and killed"). You'll also get the potential lolcows themselves rallying their friends and community to shitpost (sup) so clean up is needed. Some people don't like the changes over the last year or so and have tried to create splinter communities. As far as I know they've all died due to lack of interest.

A lot of bans are people repeatedly trying to ban evade with sockpuppets. I've seen some posters I used to think were alright just sperg the fuck out, ignore repeated warnings, get banned, then spend the next 8 months trying to slip back into the community. It's not uncommon for them to start posting on 8chan's /cow/ which some people prefer because there's less moderators and it's anonymous. If you find Kiwi Farms just isn't your thing then you could try them.

Considering mods only really ban when shit hits the fan or someone violates basic rules (most of which are fairly common on Internet forums and contain some common sense material that amounts to 'don't be a dumbass'), there is one conclusion I can draw.

You can't police yourself and are/will become a prime example of why moderation on some level is necessary. You wouldn't fall under the sociopath scale; try more autism spectrum.

From what I've seen they're at each others throats a fair bit. Echo chamber isn't a good description. We have far more groupthink than they do.

As autistic as it sounds, this website takes it's community very seriously, and respect is earned, not given to asspatters and people who manage to fit into cliques. The mods have their positions because they're the most calm and level-headed people here.

Ours fits this description as well, technically.

Our forum takes a lack of moderation very seriously (save for some who act scared of it) to the point of rioting when someone with "power" acts out of line, has an unspoken system of respect based on how interesting they are and how they handle themselves when attacked (we don't really have cliques either), and I have a mod position currently because of my not being as reactive as some others there while respecting the idea of seeing modship as a job and not an ego-trip.

We began unmoderated and stayed that way until we finally were hit with a spammer able to exhibit near-endless patience as a side effect of his affliction. It tarnished the purity of our forum's lack of rules, and I was picked from appreciating what we once were to the point of trying to use the mod tools as little as possible. I'm only even remotely respected within that position from understanding that certain levels of shitty quality is a requirement in the name of that place's freedom of speech.

Our forum has less of a sense of direction, so it works for us. I can see why it'd not be the case here for a myriad of reasons.

I've been banned from plenty of places too. Which is why I say this place is pretty sane.

It's funny, SC is the only place I've ever been banned from.

And humanity is very diverse, you can't put everyone in the same basket.

She believes that everyone is a fraction of a single being, that "we are all one". In that sense, she does put everyone into the same basket.

We just find them morbidly interesting, that's all. We're just observers.
