I laughed at some of the comments. Especially "This is why I need Patriarchy".
So I have a question, because I don't know any SJW's in real life and don't tumblr, so I only hear about them.
Are they all edgelord hipsters, or is that just the "leaders"? I mean, do they have a clique or go out or whatever, or do they just sit at home bitching on the internet all day? I'm genuinely curious to how these people manage to go through an average day without freaking out on someone.
actually, people who believe in conspiracy theories are more likely to make and be a part of conspiracies themselves.I think this quote perfectly captures the SJW mindset. They see this vast conspiracy to oppress them at every turn, to undermine their power and strip them of their freedoms, so in order to fight it, they have to create a vast conspiracy to undermine, oppress and strip away the rights and freedoms of those they see as the enemy. And they see themselves as totally just, morally correct and above reproach for it.
You know, just by seeing the pictures of some of these people alongside the messages they write, I'm immediately clued in to what they must be like. For example, the "Fuck Anne Frank, tbh" girl with the very America-centric view of slavery. Read her posts and look at her profile pictures on the screen and tell me that clue you in even more than the text as to what they must be like IRL. The screen caps in Randall Fragg's post are also a good example. Do you see where I'm going here?
That's just...disgusting. I really don't know what to say. Do they even realize that "The victim was stupid and had it coming" is the go-to excuse domestic abusers give for their behavior?
3) Does Social Work as a profession (notice the lack of "Justice")
what do you think SJWs are? That's just...disgusting. I really don't know what to say. Do they even realize that "The victim was stupid and had it coming" is the go-to excuse domestic abusers give for their behavior?
The future of gaming, if anti-GG wins.
Because small time developers patting each other on the back over their games is going to somehow destroy the mainstream... Somehow?
If there is one thing I've always found amusing about GG, this attitude that the mere existence of shit like that Pregnancy game means that Pillars of Eternity doesn't real.
Oh no. They pushed a Trans joke out of a game. All is lost. Hope is dead.
I mean, without that Trans joke, Pillars is basically shit now.
Noticing the lack of "justice" AND the addition of the word "work".![]()
I hope you don't raise children with the same mentality you have when dealing with SJWs.
And what attitude would that be?
Not being bothered by their shit?
No. If my kid is some sort of emo and comes at me talking about how nobody understands him, I have no intention of forcing him/er to be some sort of straight edge All American kid.
Likewise - Through some great sorcery I cannot quite explain, I miraculously manage to enjoy games like Pillars of Eternity in spite of the existence of Depression Quest. Though an even greater power I can only attribute to the belief that I may well be a demi god, I manage to not give a shit what Game Review sites I have never heard of prior to this whole affair say about DQ.
Likewise - Through some great sorcery I cannot quite explain, I miraculously manage to enjoy games like Pillars of Eternity in spite of the existence of Depression Quest. Also in spite of the abominable absence of jokes about transsexuals, as much as their absence tears out the very heart and soul of PoE. Through an even greater power I can only attribute to the belief that I may well be a Demigod, I manage to not give a shit what Game Review sites I have never heard of prior to this whole affair say about DQ.
If your kid throws a tantrum because you won't buy him a piece of candy, would you cave in? It is, after all, just a piece of candy.
That whole Pillars of Eternities situation is not an isolated incdent, it's just another relatively small example of certain ideologies trying to control video game content in order to mold it in line with their worldviews through underhanded means such as BS, overblown accusations of sexism, racism etc meant to silence dissenting viewpoints. You can agree or disagree with them based on what your personal beliefs are but its not like that whole issue with the tranny joke fell out of the sky.
At a different time (say three years ago) I would even be positively predisposed to have that joke removed (I can see the argument against it although I don't exactly agree), provided that this was something that was asked, not demanded by political correctness proponents. But now I was fully against removing it - although I am fine with the way Obsidian handled it by asking the writer and throwing a jab at the complainers.
See, here's my thing with this.
The language used in this sort of view is just... Sooo similar to all the "Obamacare?! More like Thoughtcrime! Have you ever read 1984? No? Neither have I, but this is basically what it was."
Oh no. A joke about Transsexuals was removed from the game. Olympus has fallen. Woe unto we few survivors.
FFS. It's a fucking joke about Transsexuals. Maybe I am just crazy, but most of the hype I was hearing about PoE wasn't about how it had the world's best jokes about transsexuals, and you had to own it because those jokes were so good they couldn't go unheard.
TL;DR - I don't buy into the notion that "Kotaku gave Gone Home 10/10" and "PoE cut a joke about Transsexuals" somehow means that the entirety of gaming is dead.
That gives far too much importance to Kotaku and is a complete insult to the quality of PoE.
Or was everyone just racing out to buy it because of those hilarious transsexual jokes, which basically made the game.
Right. Right. I'm not really seeing a parallel between Depression Quest existing and Review sites claiming it is the best thing since the invention of a wheel, and a kid throwing a temper tantrum for candy.
I'd argue there is an enormous irony in the use of a tantrum metaphor, given that the root of this string of comments is the notion that Anti-GG is going to turn Gaming into some sort of "Halo 5? No no no. That doesn't real. The only video games that exist now are "Check Your Privilege 2 - The CISening."
I have no qualms about calling sensationalist bullshit on par with "OMG. Increased taxes?! This is just like 1984! What's next?! Doublethink?!"
Or do we just imagine that the big name producers are going to go "Well, sure ______ got universal acclaim, earned us billions of dollars, and we have yet to get a rating bellow a 9, but we'd really like Kotaku to say we are the best thing since the wheel. Better rework ______ so that it is an 8Bit game about how to deal with pregnancy."
Did you actually miss the connection between the Obsidian example and a kid throwing a temper tantrum, or are you doing it on purpose?
Taking your view to its logical extreme, if a bully demands your lunch money, you may as well give it to him, since it's only a few dollars. You can't just choose to stop applying principles because you think it's too petty.
Ignoring the existence of indie devs.
I don't know much about Obamacare since I am not American but yeah I have read 1984 and it's a great book with many useful lessons. What is the point here? That people against the removal of the joke tend to hold certain specific personal beliefs? Yeah so are the people who were in favor of removing the joke, I even hinted at that in my previous post ("You can agree or disagree based on your views..."). That's absolutely normal considering what the disagreement was about.
Your attempt to portray me as some extreme ignorant wingnut conspiracy theorist will need a bit more work I think.
I never claimed any of these things. I even characterized the tranny joke incident as minor. In fact I'm fairly sure that the result is going to be the opposite of what you describe in the bolded part.
