So can I ask if Neil Degrasse Tyson has done a single thing of relevance in the last ten years outside of bitching on Twitter and being a consultant on overhyped sci-fi shows/movies?

There's also an allegation he raped a woman years ago when they were in college. This article talks about it, and the fact the accuser has brought up the allegations more than once. If true, it shows an issue with people with high IQs: if you start thinking you're better than people with lower intelligence, it's not a far leap to decide that the rules of lesser mortals don't apply to you.

EDIT:
I'm such an average guy.

Stupid above average and below average philistines.

Why can't they see how average I am?
You're just an average man, with an average life? You work from 9 to 5, hey hell you pay the price?

He managed to show a room full of people a bunch pictures of deformed, still-born babies. Has to count for something.
I did think the point about blowholes was kind of awesome, though.

Measuring intelligence is like measuring dicks.
Too little and you have to work twice as hard to prove yourself.
Too much and people can't handle it after awhile.
Just the right amount and you can get the job done no problem.

...And everyone likes to lie about how much they have.
I'll happily admit that my penis is just like my intelligence - average.

I'm pretty sure I could be almost as insufferable as these people when I was younger, sadly though I didn't know how to teleport without kill the living being.

These guys are some of the most annoying dumbasses on the planet. The kinds of people who think that people don't like them because they're misunderstood geniuses or people are jealous of their "intellect" and don't get that people don't like them because they're whiny pretentious dumb fucks with about as much depth as a kiddie pool.

Neil is enjoyable to listen to when he talks about things he is good at. He has such a strong genuine fascination for space, and can make for some nice background noise. He is full on exceptional about anything else, though, especially history. His tweet on columbus day is legendary:

This guy is the fucking Jaden Smith of Smart People.

HALAL - I love this thread so far and how it's putting smartasses in their rightful / deserved place.

People like this just cannot accept they ain't that smart... as much as it would help in more ways than one if they did, too.

Well, you might just be one. But you could just as easily be George Nucular Bush, who is a butt of jokes.

Oh, I'm definitely smart, not like Bush. You see, I'm interested in philosophy. I read some Ayn Rand yesterday and my favorite contemporary philosopher is Stephan Molyneux. I'm definitely in the top tier of intellect.

Anytime someone claims to be smart then tries to use evolutionary theory to show that men are superior to women automatically disproves their claim of being smart. The fact that women display more emotion than men is a social artifact, not biological. Women are allowed to be emotional, men aren't. Men have the same range and depth of emotion as women, they're just not supposed to show it.

Sociopaths often claim their lack of emotion is a positive trait.

The fact is that emotions are derived from more advanced brain functions. Mammals have those.

The kinds of creatures who don't have these advanced brain functions are called "reptiles."

He is very black. I think that's his main achievement.

But what do you think of Shania Twain's "That Don't Impress Me Much"?

I work with two lanky little noodle armed vegans who both majored in philosophy and it's funny to talk to them because they have their grand deep philosophical ideas and I just say "No that's stupid" and they get all flustered and angry
