Thanks for the advice gorls. Here's what my doctor said (I had sent him pics)
You need to stop whatever new it is that you started NOW, you are developing a severe allergic reaction. The type of allergic reaction that erupts on the area of contact is called contact dermatitis (common with poison ivy, nickel in jewelry, etc) but what you seem to be having is urticaria, also known as hives (common with peanut allergy, bee sting allergy, etc). With hives, you don't get a rash where you came into contact with it, it will just erupt wherever it wants. It is not a permanent condition, it should go away in a day or so after stopping whatever you are allergic to. Taking benadryl will help speed up the recovery. If you start to have tongue swelling, throat swelling, shortness of breath, wheezing, nausea/vomiting, lightheadedness/dizziness, just head to the emergency room because you could be having anaphylaxis, a life threatening allergic reaction. Please keep me updated on how you do in the next few days.
It looks worse today tbh also I had to clarify to him that I only used the product once.

It's a lot to do with diet/what our bodies consume (like in skincare for example). And finding specific triggers and ideally avoiding them, but if not, combatting them with gaps in our nutrition. Like red wine, coffee and chocolate all cause shit for my various histamine related issues... but I still enjoy all three with the help of a daily mushroom supplement. Just an example. I notice a fucking huge difference if I'm 'off protocol' and being lazy... like it's scary how much this stuff has helped me feel not-so-shit.

I'll stop derailing, just know that I'm a skeptical motherfucker and this stuff has blown my mind.

i too am a skeptical motherfucker despite appearances to the contrary, so thank you! got to get my creaking and cracking down to a dull roar.

i love a good protocol in any case. where was the gallbladder diet everyone hollers at chantal for not following when i needed it lo these many years ago, hmm?

back on topic, can anyone recommend a sort of “starter” product from the ordinary? everything seems to get wonderful reviews but i get a bit lost about what cream to use when and which is most important and how much acid to use without peeling my whole face off.

yikes! yeah don't use it anymore at all then, allergic reactions like that get cumulatively worse with each exposure so best to just toss or give it away.

are you looking to address any concerns/for a type of product in particular?

i’m really just getting started with embracing skincare as a Thing I Do Now, but my primary concerns are reducing the hyperpigmentation of old acne scars and also slowing the onset of wrinkles especially on my neck. my skin is mostly dry, not terribly sensitive, and very fair/white and paper thin such that a tiny spot can take weeks to disappear. i get hormonal acne at my jawline but not much else anymore. i was thinking a toner might be good? right now all i have is dr thayer’s witch hazel spray with rose water which is lovely but i don’t know if it’s doing anything.

for context if it is helpful, i already use: fresh strawberry facial scrub, the caudalie vinoperfect serum, dr thayer’s, and olay wrinkle defense day lotion. i also have an eye cream for nighttime by fresh that smells like a cup of tea that i love, and the caudalie serum came with small pots of day and night cream in the box set. oh and i have neutrogena triple defense wrinkle cream (again, i feel bad about my neck) but i haven’t really been using it, and i use cetaphil cleanser on my face alternating with the strawberry scrub when it ~*feels uwu*~ like a physical exfoliant might be too much. i don’t wear makeup daily for work reasons but if i do i use neutrogena’s oil cleanser to get it off my face.

thank you for your indulgence and for any help you can offer, i am new at this.

for acne scars and discoloration -. 5mm roller dermaroller 3 times a week and glycolic acid peels at least 2x monthly (can mix a bit of salicylic in to speed up the peeling) will almost absolutely fix most of that within a few months. I had dark (3nshad3s darker than my skin tone) spots on each of my temples at least the size of a quarter (from my blonde hair reflecting the sun on my large forehead for a lifetime) and they're almost completely gone now. I did use salicylic alone a few times towards the end too but that causes massive peeling and you may not want that (I did want that to finish it more quickly)

edit:typos

yeah sounds like you could definitely benefit from chemical exfoliation with an AHA like glycolic or lactic acid, which are good for addressing surface hyperpigmentation, acne scarring, and anti-aging.

the ordinary's 7% glycolic acid toner may tickle your fancy! it's only like $8 for 8 oz/240 ml. since you are fair-skinned i would maybe start by using it a couple times a week, and just know that you may experience some purging because of the increase in cell turnover. i've been using it on my face nightly, but my neck is too sensitive for it so i skip it. i also use it on the areas of my body prone to ingrown hairs/folliculitis after hair removal (i basically use it on my whole body lol, i'm a real multi-purpose gal with products)

their lactic acid + HA comes in 5% and 10% and i like that as well. it's more of a "serum" consistency and i find it to be more moisturizing. i used it in the same way as the toner (the 10%), but since it's a smaller bottle it's not efficient for me to use on both my face and body. from what i've seen from reviews they're both effective long-term, but on a molecular level, glycolic acid is tinier and therefore penetrates the skin better.

if you do start using acids, i do suggest switching to a moisturizer with a higher SPF to offset the photosensitivity that comes with using them. maybe discontinue using your scrub as well (use it on your feet!); i'm not a fan of physical exfoliants on the face as it is, but i definitely wouldn't use them alongside chemical exfoliants.

I'm sorry that this happened to you.
Do you use any other skincare? Maybe you can work out what you're allergic to by elimination looking up the ingredients of products that didn't break you out, so you don't end up dying on us.
I'm reading the ingredients of the serum you used and they seem pretty basic beside Lonicera Caprifolium (Honeysuckle) Flower Extract * and Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Fruit Extract *. I've read that you can definitely be allergic to Honeysuckle.

I'm not 100% sure it's the serum. It's just the most likely. The fact that my mouth area/ lips have started burning is creeping me out. My doc wrote this morning he wants me to take 5 days of prednisone

Great job seeking medical attention in a timely fashion. Allergic reactions are no joke. If it gets worse you really should get to at least an urgent care.

IANAD, but I’m pretty familiar with this problem from personal experience. Once you’re over this instance, you might want a blood allergy test panel done to give you an idea of what caused it.

The prednisone can make you feel weird (panicking, overstimulated) while you take it, and for a while after. You’ll get through it gorl!

I have been using the cold cream from Pond's plus makeup wipes to clean it off. I thought about trying a new cold cream. Besame just released one with their new skincare line but it's 36 dollars. =[

In my opinion Colloidal Silver is the best cure against acne, acne marks skin redness. I bought a cs cream a week ago on Amazon and since then my face looks 100% better it's crazy. Nothing I tried before worked but then boom in only a few days my problems vanished.

I was kinda sceptical when I read the Amazon reviews but now I believe them. Apparently Colloidal Silver works for a variety of problems like warts, blisters, wounds etc.

For everyone who has skin problems that just won't go away I recommend trying cs.

i order turkish tretoinin off aliexpress

I'd like some recommendations. I'm in my early 20s and I have really dull skin, not particularly oily or dry (I had really oily skin during puberty but thankfully it's considered "normal" now). prone to breakouts, but moisturizers with salicylic acid are fine on my skin. I used a hyaluronic acid spray for a little bit, but it didn't really do anything for my skin (I forget what brand it was, but it was bought at Winners so I don't think it was the best).
I'm mostly looking for products that will brighten/hydrate/give me that glowy look. thanks!

I got my drunk elephant f balm, and I'm not too happy with it. When I tried it as a sample, it was amazingly moisturizing - I woke up and my skin still felt moisturized, looked plump and felt bouncy. But now that I have the full size, I wake up and my skin is actually drier than before. It also stings a little when I put it on, and my skin doesn't "feel" moisturized. Today is the third day using it, and my skin looks worse than usual.
I bought it from somebody on eBay, so I'm worried that's the issue, but I can't find any information about this product being knocked off. The eBay seller doesn't have any bad reviews, and isn't selling massive quantities of anything, they look like they're just selling stuff they don't want.

I like niacinamide for dullness. Shark Sauce really brightened my skin up, but there are other options.
For faking a glowy look, glossier futuredew is really good, but it doesn't fix any underlying issues.

sounds like you could benefit from exfoliating-- incorporating alpha hydroxy acids into your routine will smooth your skin texture, brighten your complexion, and well as improve the efficacy of your other products because they'll be able to penetrate your skin better. in terms of brightening, niacinamide, vitamin c, licorice root, and azelaic acid are good active ingredients to look for in moisturizers or serums/toners. all of them are beneficial when it comes to addressing acne as well.

like i've mentioned before, i like the ordinary's glycolic acid toner. it's very inexpensive, easy to order/go pick up in store, and the results are almost immediate. the peeling solution has really helped my skin as well. if you have sensitive skin, i'd use them with caution because they can sting. i highly recommend them to address your dullness though, my skin has never felt better or glowed as much as it does now that i've been using acids.

for moisturizing, i really like to use neutrogena's hydroboost gel cream (or i'll just use the lighter body gel cream on my face since i use it on my body) under my moisturizer to make my skin dewy and smooth. the hada labo HA lotion is nice too but i like using gel moisturizers more than light serums. when using hyaluronic acid products like serums, toners, or sprays, remember to use an occlusive moisturizer on top. humectants like HA draw water in, but unless you seal it in with a heavier moisturizer, it'll evaporate right back out-- usually taking some of the moisture from your skin right along with it.

That Neutrogena Hydroboost is a really underrated under the moisturiser/hyaluronic-on-a-budget product. Can not recommend it highly enough for an extra layer of M O I S T. I've got some dumb fancy/expensive stuff in my routine but that Hydroboost keeps up, no problems.
