I struggled with blackheads on my nose for years, despite cleaning my face neurotically. I was able to basically totally eliminate them with Adapalene Gel. Took about 3 or 4 weeks, but it worked. It is a topical retinol specifically formulated for acne.
What is Adapalene gel? Can I have an example of what you are talking about?

Wait why is there a 66 page thread on this? I thought everyone came to a consensus that Tretinoin + sunscreen was the move forever - is that wrong?

No, that’s accurate and tretinoin will probably clear up most other skin blemishes you may have as well. Just make sure you stay moisturised. But not everyone wants to use strong retinoids.

What's the hesitation with using strong retinoids? dyk if there are negative side effects with long term use (other than just the initial dryness)

Has anyone tried those pillowcases that have silver infused in them for antimicrobial purposes or whatever?
I did. Got tired of my expensive silk pillow cases always shredding no matter how I wash them.
And, meh, not impressed.
Mine were plain cotton with silver infusion and silver threads. They felt super rough after a few washes.
So whatever positive effect they might have on breakouts, I felt they were more a net negative for being rough on my skin and hair.
I still have them but just don't really use them.

How are you not terrified of swallowing a tiny silver thread or getting it in your eyeball or nose? Sleeping on little bits of metal seems like a recipe for disaster.

It's not like they are spools of wire or something like that. Just slightly stiffer threads woven into the fabric.
So I honesly don't see why it would be scarier than swallowing some cotton or getting it in my eyeballs. At least silver is both anti microbial and safe to eat which cotton isn't.

I’ve been using tretinoin for years without side effects. Seems fine to me. Haven’t heard of anyone else having issues either.
What I have seen is ”eww, chemicals!”, which is whatever to me. Nature is full of chemicals, and if you promise not to panic, I can even reveal to you that your own body contains several chemicals!

Any advice on cyst acene? Specially in the chin, I have been down rabbit holes of websites. Nothing they suggest seem to help.

I was watching a video on Lush bathbombs and decided to check out their site (I haven't tried out a proper bath bomb in a WHILE), turns out they renamed three of their bathbonbs to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, which is honestly just not cool from the standpoint that it says nothing about their scents, someone even complained about it too.

Diversity, equity and inclusion are being treated as dirty words. We have a problem with that, and not just because we are a soap company.

Gee, I wonder why. Maybe it's because people are getting sick of it getting shoved into their faces for political reasons?

Edit: Also, does anyone know any good ways to deal with facial eczema?

Lush is one of the worst companies riding the troon bandwagon, always funding some bs charity in the UK. Also, their face products are loaded with essential oils and irritants.

For eczema, I'd recommend products containing colloidal oat, it is really soothing. If you're in the US, Prequel has some nice and gentle products, and it's an affordable brand. You can check out their Gleanser wash, Redness Reform serum and Barrier Therapy cream.

Any Canadian brands? I'll still keep a look-out for what you've mentioned, eczema can be a real bitch.

I believe Aveeno products are easy to find in Canada, some of their products are specifically for sensitive eczema-prone skin. I'd check their oat cleanser and triple oat serum.

Eucerin Eczema Relief products and La Roche Posay's Lipikar range are also solid options.

I really appreciate the help, you're really too kind when it comes to this sort of thing. I have picked up Aveeno products before and they're pretty accessible.

Do any of you here have experience with perioral dermatitis? I developed a bad case on my chin a while ago and when I finally went to see a dermatologist I bad a severe negative reaction the treatment she prescribed me. Anyway, one of the suspected causes is too much hygiene, so for now I've stopped using any of my many creams and instead use a simple moisturiser and face wash from the La Roche Posay Toleriane series. I'm a bit worried though about no more retinol etc.
If any of you had this kind of dermatitis before, did you ever go back to your prior skincare routines or did it immediately flare up again? I want to wait another week to let the redness go away, but then I do want to try my old products again (but get rid of the Korean overnight masks that I think might have contributed to the outbreak).
Thanks for any advice!

Perioral dermatitis gang! I would treat it kind of like an allergic reaction--re-introduce things one at a time only, and maybe wait longer than you think you might need to before you do. I've found my flare-ups tend to lurk, for lack of a better word, even when I think things have simmered down, and I gotta wait at least a week longer after my skin is totally back to normal. I also give things a couple weeks before I bring back the next thing to try. My skin is very reactive, though, so ymmv.

Bad news man, after struggling with pretty bad cyctic acne on my jawline and chin for 10 years and trying literally everything from spot treatment shots to special diets. Accutane is my one and only savior. One year of chapped lips and sunburn is worth it, I never thought I could have a normal face. Find a dermatologist. Change your life.

What's our opinion on icing your face? I got one of those silicone ice things to try it (esp around my eyes) since it seems relatively harmless. I don't know if it actually does anything though.

This is a month and a half late, but for future reference, the most well-known brand of adapalene gel is Differin. Other brands have their own versions, you can usually find Neutrogena's for half the price at Marshall's or T.J. Maxx, for example.

I had horrible acne and it was the only thing that did anything to help. I didn't use it as a spot treatment, but all over my face after washing it. Make sure you use a hydrating moisturizer afterwards (and sunscreen) because it is strong.

I don't do it myself, but I know people who do with ice rollers you can buy on Amazon. I heard it helps with inflammation and redness? Reminds me of when people tell you to put tea bags on your face for similar reasons.
