Thankfully my joints are doing pretty swell. I was more interested in it for skin, especially firmness, but also if it might help with my lingering adult acne. The sheer number of brands and types and stuff that's more health vs. beauty orientated makes my head spin.
Collagen peptides is collagen peptides, so just go for the cheapest you find. I do use a collagen peptide powder from Swedish Supplements. It's a health and fitness oriented brand, but it's the same stuff.

Have you talked with a dermatologist? I don't think collagen will do anything for acne, if you haven't tried Accutane, tretinoin, spirolactone.

I'll look into that brand, thanks.

Oh yeah, we've been fighting this battle together for a long time. I should be doing Accutane but I'm never in one place long enough and plus with insurance bullshit doing the bloodtests is just not feasible, I was on Spiro for a while but developed an adverse reaction so had to stop, but tretinoin is my best fruwend.

What's everyone's opinion on collagen supplements? Do they work and are they worth it or is it a scam? Any recommendations for brands?
Hydrolysed collagen peptide is supposed to do something, but it's more for joint health. I have read on reddit from besserwissers that quote TLDR studies, sperg about how it reaches the skin and never really come to a conclusive answer.

So yes and no. I would try it for aching joints though.
If marine collagen is your thing, I'd even recommend just picking up a big ol' big of Anthony's (the bulk brand).

As Vingle pointed out collagen is collagen so it will work the same wether you take it in capsules or granulated forms. It's meant for joints, the skin, nail and hair benefits are more of a side effect.

Now if you use collagen peptide serums these display more benefits for your skin as they act on the target area. These also usually promote collagen production on site and thus usuallt come formulated with collagen peptides, hyaluronic acid and certain add ons to promote the absorption and retention of moisture.

If you're still in your 20s then I'd recommend the serums more, now if you're 30 or older and have familiar history of aching joints or collagen disorders then you may want to start taking supplements orally. (As well as adding more gelatin and meats to yout diet)

Finally went to the dermatologist today and got myself some Accutane, Differin and Finacea. I wanted tretinoin too, but it's summer. Lol, I have yet to see anyone paler than me here. I don't fuck around with the sun protecting.

I have pruritis, but the itch is anxiety related (using multiple vegan creams/unscented body washes) for weeks.
Now I got a pimple at the nape of my neck that occasionally hurt for 2 consecutive days. *sigh*
Advices?

warm wet washcloth on it for however long possible, the warmth will soothe it and loosen it up and help it go away

don't try to pop it in its current state, when it's painful and throbbing, when it's been loosened up somewhat and has started to recede MAYBE you can try to pop it with clean hands

Tried stuff that aren’t vegan? I swear eveytime something turns vegan to be trendy. It always becomes worse in performance.
I have; I was gifted Crabtree & Evelyn's Goatmilk & Oat "Soothing" Body Lotion. Soothing, but not effective on elbows/arms 1/10; 1.5 due to smell.

I shower with warm water and used to use the (microwaved) warm wet washcloth on armpits for cysts...but have another topical cream that's much more effective; it only had a drop of pus and will be going to a dermatologist after another medical appointment. /PL

Any advice for big pores? I've given up on the nose ones as a teen because everyone I knew dealt with it, but I've started noticing them on my chin over the past few months. Have used cerave cleanser + moisturizer once daily for years now, skin too sensitive for twice a day. Make up gets cleaned off properly etc.

Which Cerave cleanser and moisturizer are you using?

I don't know too much but obviously facial cleansers/moisturizer combos each morning and exfoliating tools/creams with textures?
If deep blackheads, I had them popped via fingernails/face.

Cerave and Cetaphil I highly recommend too; anything labeled "deep moisture"/thick or rich on the tin.
Moisturizer I use is Clean&Clear, but another Kiwi can do better advice.

Thick and rich products have a higher chance of clogging pores, that might be it.

I'm not sure which clean&clear moisturizer you refer to, but both that I found (dual action, essentials) seem to have a couple somewhat comedogenic ingredients (ex. combination of Cetearyl alcohol + stteareth-20).

I recommend using this site to check ingredients.

Background: Here are all the things I use. My skin developed severe cystic acne at age 11 and it didn't go away until I was 21. Now I'm in my mid-20's trying to get rid of my acne scars and forehead wrinkles that anxiety gave me. I've gotten rather serious about it in the last year. Currently seeing positive results and my skin looks better all-round.

I've had multiple rounds of different antibiotics in my youth that never worked and only contributed to anorexia and stunted my height by age 18 (95 lbs, 5'6" male) because they hurt my stomach and I would not eat. When I gave clindamycin up and made changes to my lifestyle via stress reduction, exercise, and diet things got better and I'm currently 170 lbs at 5'9". I've had 4 sessions of clinical microdermabrasion to positive results in clearing up my acne at age 19 and 20. This year, I have had two sessions of CO2 fraxel laser resurfacing and it has vastly improved my acne scars and forehead wrinkles by about 40% I'd guess. CO2 laser works immediately and long term for years to boost collagen and resurfacing. My scars are severe enough I will probably need two more laser treatments. I will also continue to get CO2 laser semi-annually to age gracefully after my scars are healed because it's so powerful and effective. I've also dabbled in IV therapy and injectable amino acids and vitamins, in the hopes of delaying aging. I'm also looking into botox and fillers as a preventative treatment to delay/minimize forehead wrinkles and difficult crater scars.

I highly recommend Asterwood Triple Repair, it has worked more than anything I've ever used for wrinkles and skin; it's kind of an all in one for everything you need. I use an LED face mask for red light therapy everyday. I layer on sunscreen when I know I'll be in it. I use an antibacterial body soap from Dove to combat body acne. I really like using the gua sha to shape my face and rub in products at night. At home microdermabrasion and blackhead remover has worked really well for me. Also enjoy the Ideal Greens, vitamin mix, and collagen bites for the benefit of "inside."

The only things I would like to add to my routine is a more gentle, light moisturizer when I need to give my skin a break and something anti-aging for my body skin. For now, I've been using hemp shaving cream as a substitute cleanser but I cannot leave it on. I think I will try something with aloe or oat gel to calm my skin on a "down day." I'll take your suggestion @retard strength and try CeraVe's daily moisturizer in conjunction with trying whatever calming moisturizer I can find.

Oral collagen won't do much for skin or joints for most people, though I've heard topical collagen preparations have their uses.

Oral collagen will do approximately nothing if you're getting enough protein in your diet - dietary proteins (including ingested collagen) get broken down into very short amino acid chains before they're absorbed, and if you eat a normal diet with mixed protein sources you'll have plenty to go around. Meat and milk and whey protein will all give you the same thing and are cheaper.

That said, it can't hurt either.

@StyrofoamFridge
I only know of copious consuming of oatmeal. If it's genetic, and your pregnant in the future Eat oatmeal/bathe baby in oatmeal for prevention/clear skin
sauce: Mom did this to me, but I had little acne in teen
I'm a guy, but thank you for the suggestion, I found an oatmeal gel from Aveeno I'm gonna order and give a go along with CeraVe daily moisturizer.

That's actually a good soap! Us guys have more collagen and are blessed in that we technically age slower, but most guys are so rough on themselves women beat us even after menopause. However, I'm trying to look 30 when I'm 55. :smug:

I'm a little confused by your story @StyrofoamFridge. Why didn't you just jump on to use Accutane? It is widely known that antibiotics for acne over time increase the risk for getting resistant bacterias. I see you are a male, and Accutane is easier on guys and heck. I'm on my 3 course now, because hormonal male acne goes on until the 30's for some "unlucky" ones. More oily skin age slower, so that's why "unlucky"
I don't understand why antibiotics are still used to combat acne, it just seems so pointless. Antibiotics are only for inflammation, but acne is because of overproduction of sebum. So antibiotics only treat part of the problem, or not the problem at all. Because if there was no overproduction of sebum, there would be no inflammation of clogged pores. As I do not believe pores get clogged unless there is abnormal activity.

I don't see any mention of tretinoin either, so if you don't use that. You should. And slugging really helps to lock in the skincare and give you this piercing radiance almost.
If you look at Dr. Dray, it's that radiance I mean.

Dr. Dray did mention that some people go on low-dose Accutane for long times, as it is anti-aging. And it could help you with the body acne.

Edit: I just saw the Differin tube, but Differin is weaker than tretinoin. If you're in Murica, you can actually get coupons for prescription stuff and make it cheap. Something Dray showed in a video.

@retard strength Salicylic acid is the standard for big pores. Can probably do dermaneedling for them too.
