Winter time is approaching, and I’m starting to have issues finding a decent moisturizer for my oily skin that won’t make me greasier AND would hydrate my dry skin. Does that mean I’m combinations skin, and should I invest in a serum or what?

You could try a gel cream if a gel isn’t doing enough for you, but since you’re talking about both oily and dry skin you might very well be combo if you get oily in the T zone and dry everywhere else.
Also maybe pick up a salicylic acid spot treatment for any breakouts in your oily areas.
Anyone have cheap(ish) reccs for acne scarring?
Seconding retinol (but do your research on how to safely use it) for acne scarring, something that could also help would be a glycolic/lactic acid exfoliating mask.
Scarring usually occurs mostly at the top layer of skin, and by safely exfoliating over time, it *should* help the appearance of acne scars.
It’s not going to work as well on extreme pitting or texture, but the finer/hyperpigmentation stuff should slowly go alway.

Thoughts, skin spergs?
Seems futile. A tone of Expensive and trendy brands, but her whole thread is full of comments on how rudy and terrible her skin is. She is showing her "lifestyle" here, her belonging to the "tribe" and that's it.

I have a friend who drops major bucks on her skincare and has been for years, and her skin is... just okay. Really pale, probably because of the constant high-spectrum sunscreen, but not in a particularly porcelaine-looking way. There's still texture and pore. Nothing spectacular next to my friends and relative who do nothing and sometimes have better skin. I do belive in a little bit of skincare, hydratation is good, BHA/AHA kinda works temporarly, but the greatest hacks are still genetic, next, lifestyle, and then sunscreen. A lot of the time the jar contains mainly water & glycerin, no mater what the pricetag says.

I live in the American Gardens Building on West 81st Street on the 11th floor. My name is Patrick Bateman. I’m 27 years old. I believe in taking care of myself, and a balanced diet and a rigorous exercise routine. In the morning, if my face is a little puffy, I’ll put on an ice pack while doing my stomach crunches. I can do a thousand now. After I remove the ice pack I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower I use a water activated gel cleanser, then a honey almond body scrub, and on the face an exfoliating gel scrub. Then I apply an herb-mint facial masque which I leave on for 10 minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an after shave lotion with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion. There is an idea of a Patrick Bateman. Some kind of abstraction. But there is no real me. Only an entity. Something illusory. And though I can hide my cold gaze, and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping yours, and maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable, I simply am not there.

Gorls, I need a shampoo rec. Or just advice in general.

I was caught in a bind at the fella's the other day and had to use his fully sulfate-loaded Herbal Essences (which is a massive lol to me to begin with). Anyway, I'd forgotten what it was like after using salon/SFS free stuff for years. And I'm embarrassed to admit that my hair hasn't felt this clean since I can remember.

I've been shopping around forever to find a new salon brand shampoo, because I honest to god think they just build up and/don't clean that well/don't rinse well. My hair is colour treated, long, fine, straight, roots a little oily but nothing crazy. I work out a fair bit though. My ends get masques instead of conditioner and an oil post-wash. And regularly cut - they're in really good shape. My concern is the roots.

I've tried clarifying shampoos from a bunch of brands, but really only found them useful if there's product buildup in my hair (a rare thing for me). I've tried double washing - but just end up going through more shampoo without any real results to show for it.

SO is there a poison free version of the poison lol? Is there something that will do a similar level of squeaky clean? Do I throw caution to the wind and get the Herbal Essences back in the mix, and continue using the Kerastase etc. on my ends? Thoughts? x

Honsestly, most dermatologists or anyone in the haircare field I've heard with a good scientific background will tell you sulfates are super safe. Sulfates are widespread in use because they're extremely effective and safe surfactant cleansers that have been subject to enormous amounts of research. When you replace sulfates with something else, that "something else" is all but guaranteed to be less studied than sulfates. That doesn't make alternative cleansers safer, it just means we don't know the potential for toxicity as well.

There's a tremendous amount of clean beauty woo in haircare, and I'm learning to get around it myself. Most people's main source of haircare information comes from stylists, who usually are not exactly scientists, and the stylists are being trained by brand reps selling their products.

Personally, I just grabbed some basic L'Oreal volumizing shampoo recently. My hair looks and feels better with it than with all the expensive Kevin Murphy shit I've been using for years. I like to swap it out for a Neutrogena clarifying shampoo once every week or two (depending on how much product I'm using) just to make sure my scalp isn't getting too much buildup.

It's still hippy shit, but I like this:

I'm mega guilty of just listening to my stylist tbh (who I love, but are 1. not exactly a rocket scientist and 2. trying to sell product). And look I joke about 'poison', I know there's nothing inherently bad about sulfates. I just had some concerns about dryness and breakage and whatnot (what we did before Olaplex I'll never know). But I figure if I keep the rest of the h air in check with a mask I'll probably be fine. This is all really helpful, thanks muchly!

I love Pacifica. Smells so dreamy. I'll give her a go!

Some of those brands come up in boxycharm and other boxes so not always needing to spend a ton of money.

Pacifica smells good but I haven’t used one product that does the shit it’ll say it’ll do.
Yah I admit I haven't used anything from them with any actives - literally just body washes/fragrances. They had an essence/mist I liked too but wasn't doing any heavy lifting.

I can't actually get the Rosemary shampoo in my country (well not quickly), so it'll be a minute before I can give it a go.

I'm going to get hated for this, but I've discovered my ideal skincare routine...Pretty much nothing.
After trying a bunch of stuff to transition to "aging" skin since I'm now in my 30s, i realise the best thing for my skin is barebones. I've never had acne issues or anything. I was using hyaluronic acid daily, but my skin was getting red, now I use it once a week. I was using a light scrub, but I'm now using a mild brush twice a week (no soap). After showers I use "clean and clear: dual action moisturizer". My skin is looking fine.
edit: I will add, I very rarely wear make-up so I'm not leaving make-up on my face every night if I don't wash it before bed.

I don't have a routine based on products atm because i tried to go zero waste for a while and my skin rejects it for some reason, but i've found that daily facial massage on tense areas of my face helps me a lot. The Gua Sha tool is a miracle too but i broke mine because i am clumsy and had oily hands. I'm still in my early 20s and the biggest problem i have is finding a hydrating face product that's cheap and won't clog my pores, the only ones that work for me are french pharmacy creams and they are mostly tested on animals and very expensive in my country.
