Dororo isn't exactly a crossdresser though since he actually believes himself to be a boy. The idea that someone believes they're the opposite gender (whether or not they call it transsexuality) comes up in anime and manga occasionally, either as a joke or taken more seriously such as with Claudine, which was written in the late 70s.
