All this art of characters wearing "ATTENTION: I AM A HOMOSEXUALLY GAY LGBT GAY PERSON" shirts is a better send-up of left-identity politics attitudes than most intentional pieces of parody. It's a really concise illustration of the way identity politics tends to boil down an individual to a string of labels.

Since this thread seems to have plenty of artists, can I ask for advice? I want to get better at drawing and I try to practice everyday but it feels like I'm not improving, and my anatomy sucks. Any advice? Decent sources?

Anyways, most of the fandoms I'm interested in are dead or obscure. But I've noticed a trend of people making Jak much more darker than he actually is, he's got a fairly tan skin tone.

Ah yes, the return of the shitty pride flag shirts.
My old enemy..

Honestly, i'd take a figure drawing class. It really helped me understand anatomy and how the body flows. If that's not an option, you could watch videos of ice skaters or dancers and observe their movements etc. Also, just draw random people you see throughout your day, in classes, cafes, etc.

Something I used to do all the time was redraw things from photographs/other references. It was mostly just to get better at drawing what it was, like a horse for instance. It also still helps me to google “horse side view” or whatever if I can’t get it right or don’t remember what to do.

Then again with that example of horses, I’ve heard they’re one of the hardest animals to draw. But drawing from references helped me to retain that knowledge for later. Not sure if that works for everyone but it did help me a lot.

dont be scared to "cheat" like referencing pictures or even tracing over em to get the basic gist of the picture
tracing over something a couple of time in different poses can get u used to its structure and motion and eventually drawing it freehand

just dont fall on these things for crutches, at some point the training wheels gotta go

The thing that gets me over the over sized uneeded trans top op scars is that they look like fresh wounds and should still be bleeding. I also don't understand the wyman thing sides the funny pronouncenation of it. Mostly cuz the Y is accoiated with male cromeizone. Would make more sense if it was some thing like Womex or Woxem...right tumblrina logic derp.

If you want in depth analysis and tutorial videos related to art, I would recommend Sycra on youtube. Even years later I rewatch his videos when i'm struggling with my art. Here are some videos from the dude.

https://youtu.be/k0ufz75UvHs Iterative Drawing - The Fastest Way to Improve
https://youtu.be/ELoLLe8zALQ Comfort Zones
https://youtu.be/Qb0g_gWrNf8 How to Break Through Artist's Block

  • When you practice drawing something, don't draw it once. Draw it multiple times, try to fill up a page. If you are drawing a hand for example, and you only draw one hand a day, that won't help you improve as quickly as you may want. Try drawing 20 hands a day, fill up an entire page. The point is, draw a lot. It'll improve your hand to eye coordination, and your muscle memory. If you do this a lot it'll start to become intuitive.

  • Just like goatD said, it's perfectly fine to use references and trace. Tracing can help get a feel for the art and understand it better. If you trace, do it multiple times until you end up doing it very fast. After that, try drawing it on your own.

Using references and tracing can help you see the flaws in your art that you didn't notice before- which is good. This means you can fix the mistakes in your art more quickly, in comparison to someone who may not use references.

  • Get out of your comfort zone. Your comfort zone is stuff you know you are good at drawing, stuff you draw often. But in order to improve, you need to draw new things, learn new things. Drawing the same thing over and over, can end up stagnating your improvement. It doesn't have to even be what you are drawing, but what you are drawing with.

For example, my comfort zone is with traditional pencil art. So I have been trying to use pen more often, and do digital art more often, since this is outside of my comfort zone.

If you have a hard time motivating yourself to draw, I recommend drawing with friends. There are websites/programs such as FlockDraw and Drawpile, where you can draw with people.

Someone de-sexualized Cindi from final fantasy xv.

Let's be real, if you're playing a JRPG, the girls are gonna be sexualised. It's just gonna happen. JRPGs are full of homophobia (especially older ones) and sexy womz. Developers will only change it if you don't buy their games lol

Tumblr/Twitter probably thinks that if they make enough edits, there will be some kind of social change?

honestly the art isn't too bad but i would like them to stay far, far away from jak

Really? Like what in particular? If you don’t mind elaborating, I’m just curious
Usually pretty quick skits or throwaway lines

Like in persona 5, the only clearly gay characters are these two who try to push the main characters into an unwanted sexual situation
eV0M6cA.jpg

Or phrased in ways that make men on dates seem "weird" and unnatural
tumblr_peuamgf49m1xbh8ago1_1280.png

It's also generally the butt of a joke
ZBpvv.jpg

It might seem like a stretch, but Tumblr loves to stretch. If they were that concerned about sexualised women, they'd be concerned about this, and they wouldn't play the games.

We all know they're playing for the hot yaoi boiz anyway.

Basically, it's simple: Someone makes a joke that could be mistaken for being gay/lesbian/whatever
Tumblr: AWAKENED

Some guy: "Hey, do you know about all the shit happening to women in Syria?
Pretty fucked up huh?"

Tumblrina: "yeah i guess but that's their culture i suppose....*sigh*"

Some guy: "Jak from Jak and Daxter is white"

Tumblrina: "Um actually no lol he isnt even a natural blonde and also the particular graphics engine for the PS2 whitewashed him because Sony hates black gamers dont @ me hetty lolol get a load of this blah blah blah blah blah-"

Priorities.

If you don't mind me adding to this, if like to say that I always find when people using the term "tracing" in relation to being a learning tool to be somewhat misleading, as "tracing" tends to more often refer to transcribing the outer contours of an image by themselves - which in my opinion is not very useful as a learning tool by itself since it doesn't provide much in the way of actually learning to recognize the inner structure of something or how those individual parts fit together. It why back in the days of Naruto DeviantArt Mary Sue Donut Steels a lot of the people who got really good at simply editing and/or tracing screenshots were still terrible when attempting to draw freehand.

A smarter way to go about "tracing" is to not simply follow the contours, but to take that as an opportunity to try and reverse engineer the subject through either red-lining or through break-down studies. For instance taking a photo of a figure and comparing it to a diagram of the skeletal structure or the musculature to better understand where the body parts connect and how those interconnecting parts work when in motion, or taking action/in-motion poses to try and find the action curve or study the alternating shoulder-hip rule.

When done with purpose drawing over photographs can be a very useful tool for understanding structure - especially when you later to to draw things more stylized - but I feel this is an important distinction that's often overlooked by just saying "tracing."

Proko is a damn good resource for learning anatomy. It's all free on Youtube, with some extra homework-type studies on his site.
I think a decent place to start off with would be his "Introduction to Human Anatomy for Artists" video. I also recommend the structure, bean, landmarks, and robo bean anatomy tutorials.
Sycra is also another amazing teacher. Their hand tutorial is fucking LEGIT. (Way better than DrawWithJazza's hand ""tutorial."" He also has a good tutorial on drawing male torsos and a lot more! Check him out!
And generally, just search Youtube for any thing you need artwise. There are literally billions of tutorials out there, for free.
And lastly, never forget to practice. Even if it's just drawing a certain thing, like hands, over and over and over again until you feel you've got them down.

do yall think theres interest for a sister thread to this one, specif for characters that arent meant to be seen as attractive like rick&morty or southpark charas or whatever else, being turned into cute soft uwu babies or sexy kawaii anime teens

South Park characters aren't "intentionally ugly", though. They're "ugly" because that's literally all Matt and Trey could do with their resources and artistic abilities (or lack thereof) when they made the pilot. They only kept that style because of how quick and cheap it is to make, especially using CGI (yes, the show is CGI).

Matt and Trey have also gone on record as saying they really like the "anime" art female fans make. Particularly Matt iirc.

Idk if this counts as SJW art, but what the fuck. What makes this more creepy is the description:

"How I feel will when I look at a smug midget sometimes, especially Mineta, a horrible excuse of a comic relief. This is how disgusted I feel when I look at this ugly gremlin in hentai doujins/fanart with Momo and Tsuyu, which Shotou is less featured in for some reason, and has zero hentai doujinshi with Momo and Camie because fans love emasculating him. Shouto deserves to slam Momo not Generic Pervert Comic Relief #334, and for one thing I don’t want to see my favorite females in hentai being banged by guys that should be ran over by a car like Mineta and Bakugou."

Edit: It gets worse. I found another one.

tumblr_pccrtzUlfT1rx8v92o1_400.png

"All Mineta pairings are evil(especially the porn that are pure nightmare fuel that I have seen talented artists draw for no good reason), kill the little grape troll."

In this one, people at least called the artist out for being fucked up.

Why the hell is a hormonal fifteen year old hated to the point of horrific torture porn? What is most disgusting is how most of these same people fangirl over Dabi and Himiko, who torture people for fun, the later hunting down innocent people to take all their blood, yet hate Mineta.
Oh, and love Bakugo, who bullied the literal main character for about his whole life. What the fuck.

Okay, I think I figured out why people hate Mineta but like Bakugo. Here it is:

  1. Bakugo (especially later in the manga) begins to reflect on his behavior. Mineta never does this.
  2. Bakugo faces long term consequences when he acts like a douche. Mineta only gets slapped, and is never formally disciplined.
  3. Bakugo has other character traits besides being a prick. Perversion is Mineta's whole personality.
  4. Bakugo is a main character. Mineta is a background character.
  5. Mineta has an annoying voice in both English and Japanese.
  6. Mineta's design is stylistically inconsistent with the other characters.
  7. He's all of Bakugo's selfishness with none of Bakugo's strength or useful abilities.
8 ) Shinso is a much more interesting character and deserves to be in 1-A more than Mineta. Shinso is even implied to have some sort of relationship with Aizawa.

lol I know jack shit about Super Monkey Ball, but i'm pretty sure that both of these characters are in love with each other, them even having a baby together that can time travel

I'm surprised that there isn't a he/him lesbian flag on the left one
Canon means nothing when it comes to progress.
