I notice a lot of young artists in particular have this smug attitude of "lol I don't need to learn the basics, shows like Adventure Time and SU exist and they aren't even close to being realistic", as if these animators didn't need to learn how basic fucking anatomy works before they went and stylized it.
Actually somebody once said that "Why learn something when you don't want to/need to learn that?" (in art)
But you really need to learn everything, as an artist (If they are), and of course then you can know what kind of style/stylization you want, and do you want cartoons or semi or anything.
It's not supposed to be;
"Well I don't want to" "It's my style" etc.
And also they are missing a lot when they don't.
One thing I do is, I usually change between styles and realistic to something really cartoony. whatever goes.
