Goddamn, everything about this is absolutely fucked---the colors, the art style, the composition. I almost didn't notice Garnet was in the drawing because her color scheme is so fucking bad she almost blends in with the background. My favorite is Pearl though, she looks like she's a pimp for all these ugly trannies.

This is WikiHow tier tracing.

Anyways this pic reminds me, why is this the default way to draw ~poc~ lips now? (outside of just copying SU) Sure some ethnicities have a less prominent cupids bow but totally erasing the philtrum like this just makes them look deformed and unnatural. It doesn't look like a black person's mouth...it doesn't look like any human's mouth.

I think a big factor is that a lot of people who draw those kind of lips can't draw very well to begin with. It's possible to draw bigger lips in an attractive way, but I doubt these people actually look at reference pics of real people's lips, they just look at how SU does it or at another artist whose probably also just copying SU lips.

Wow, and I thought the news about the series going on a hiatus was the worst thing that happened to the series.

Corvo looks like a fucking gorilla, and Jessamine looks like a corpse that was recently dug up. This shit is horrible.

now i love me some big kissable plump lips, but tumblr does it alllll fuckin wrong. This is just lazy and gross looking, and you can always 100% tell that if they draw lips like this, they are guaranteed to be crazy nutjobs.

Basically this. They're trying to copy something they're a fan of without having any knowledge of actual anatomy---they're skipping straight to stylization without actually learning why or how it works, or how to make it look appealing.

I notice a lot of young artists in particular have this smug attitude of "lol I don't need to learn the basics, shows like Adventure Time and SU exist and they aren't even close to being realistic", as if these animators didn't need to learn how basic fucking anatomy works before they went and stylized it.
