Maybe? You can now use any hair style on any gendered inkling or octoling now so that might have something to do with it.
While this is the case (and it includes legwear), this does no change the fact that Inklings and Octolings are still male and female in-game. The illusion of "gender-change" is there but some stuff cannot be modified.

I imagine most Kiwis here haven't tried the new demo yet (or ever will), but while the Nintendo of America devs have turned "gender" options into "style" options yet again, Splatoon characters are defined by their sexial dimorphism and it shows.

This is most obvious in Octolings, as female Octolings' eyemasks have a dash you do not see on males.

It might not be the case for Inklings, as their eyemask is always the same regardless of gender, but even before the demo's release someone was autistic enough to elaborate this eyebrow chart illustrating how males have bigger/sharper eyebrow variants in comparison to their female counterparts regardless of species. There is also their voiceclips, which cannot be hand-picked, so you will also know species and gender that way.
Sadly, they made character animations unisex in Splatoon 3, so all of them are animated more or less the same, but in previous games that was also a way of telling.

TL;DR, Splatoon isn't like Animal Crossing where "style" can prevail over "gender" because the character base didn't have any sexual dimorphism to begin with.

Can you explain why TIMs and self described nonbinary women are attracted to the game and actually play it? It it solely because of the character design?
If I'm honest? I don't really know. I've been into Splatoon since I was a teen all the way back with Splatoon 1, and I personally loved it because I like the mechanics revolving around ink and some of my friends were super into it as well. My only theory in regards to nonbinary women is a case of nonbinary being a hot, trendy identity for women who feel like they're more complex than other women or who hate being seen as women. These people tend to gravitate towards video games, which is evident if you look into the fanbases for a plethora of popular games.

I don't think it's solely because of the character design. A lot of people, from your typical gamer to your nonbinary women and TiMs, have clowned on specifically Pearl and now Frye for having large foreheads. However, character design is a big appeal within Splatoon. The idol groups have to look appealing because, well, they're idols! Plus they tend to be the face of the news and story in the respective games (Callie and Marie being agents in Splatoon 1 and 2, Pearl and Marina helping in Octo Expansion, and it looks like Shiver, Frye, and Big Man will be the bad guys in Splatoon 3's story from the direct? That's my speculation anyway).

It could also be that this is a more "tame" multiplayer shooter game. Given other popular choices can be the likes of things like CoD and whatever else, which are considerably more mature due to including blood and grittier models. TiMs are obsessed with being women in a way actual women aren't, so they may naturally want to play "girly" games. IDK much about nonbinary women in terms of if they'd all have a similar mindset (gravitating towards "tamer" games) but who knows.

TLDR:
Plus it’s a cute looking game which attracts these types of people.
(The part about having any hairstyle not bound by the gender select that Half-Blood Princess mentioned is a reason some nonbinaries may like it, similarly to how they all lost their minds when the latest Animal Crossing game had that as well).

They're confusing the white cloth (which is something from Japanese culture, though I forget the exact word) for FtM troons binding their chests with tape or something else.
Well, they call it a sarashi.

Here's what it looks like:

Sarashi has also been used after the birth of children and also as protective clothing by men. Over time, the cloth gained use in battles and appears constantly in anime and manga as a symbol of a warrior. Even women use these to bind their breasts so they won't hang out.

Welcome back everyone ;)
Missed you guys. Glad everyone survived the Tranny onslaught

If i remember correctly, this was also used commonly by yakuza and young delinquents since, like you say, it's a symbol of a warrior. I guess it's also related to the "tough youngster" aesthetic and that's why it's used so much by young punks and women that want to give a tough image.

I wonder if they realise that by spreading the name etc of Kiwifarms, it causes more people to visit who otherwise had no idea what it was/existed, and then read up on things on here properly and learn some actual truths about trannies/other things.
A lot of people take what the critics say at face value. Once you get accuse of "hating LGBT" and stuff like that people tend to refuse to give you the benefit of the doubt, or see things from your perspective.
Likely most wont bother to come. Some might and change their minds about the forums or still come but read it all with a bias against the farms.

So, I would like to talk about Pseudonym Jones' comic:
media_C6kb5FvWoAISDcO.jpg

Th is actually a pretty clever comic... mocking the gender stereotypes boys have to undergo, subtly critiquing how boys are called 'girls' if they fail a those stereotypes, and pointing ou the double-standard from those same nforcers if anyone actually does ocially transition to being a girl, which involves being more feminine.

Pseudonym then ruins this:

I guess Pseudonym rejects the tropes of Applicability and Periphery Demographic. You do not need to be trans in order to recognise the struggles trans people face or the hypocrisy of people who enforce man rules.
The irony is that Pseudonym is guilty of the same thing: Pseudonym claims that cis men stopped reading the comic when the comic stopped being abou them, but Pseudonym stopped caring about others when the responses stopped being abou transgender people; cis boys, the true targets of man rules, really do get ostracised on being unable to live up to man rules, not o mention the lives of those who are only living by man rules by force. If anything, transgender people are the one getting upse that something is not all abou them.

Get BTFO’d losers. Nintendo themselves had to come out and say she’s not a fag.

The actual delusion that a ultra-traditional, conservative Japanese company would actually feature some teenaged garbage “sexuality” in their main line games is HILARIOUS.

These American nerds need to realize that they have ZERO influence with Japanese development. Overseas fans are just extra cash. They don’t need to bend anything for Americans because they make enough sales everywhere else.
I do legit wonder what is worst, the teenage zoomer Tiktok LGBTRU#NFDSKJL++++ American twitter users, or the Bughive/"Muh Democratic Socalism" also LGBTTTT+++++ European twitter users. It is quite a conundrum

In many cases, most people that complain about the farms are just doing character assasination and doing the obvious smear with the forum since they seem to conveniently forget that all information here is public and usually, easily available to anyone that might look a bit into the person. And don't forget that people here are constantly encouraged to not interact with the subjects of the thread. After all, if you mess with one of the cows chances are you're a cow too yourself and you're just hoping for some e-fame like the Mushroom Queen tried to do.

And on the subject of hating LGBT people, don't forget that Google actively censors forum results when it comes to trannies. If you search for genderblobs like Sophie, Keffals and the usual troon suspects, you will not find anything. It's kind of a moot point, but when you need victimhood to validate yourself, anything will do. If it's not KF, it's imaginary TERFs or anyone else.

For a lot of young guys this comic would resonate a lot with them. Many during and shortly after the puberty really struggle with the ideas of masculity, specially of people that they see around them that fit into the archetype of "manly men" and therefore, when they don't fit into the mold they feel like less of a man, usually trying to cope or compensate in other ways. I bet many have been there and they only made things worse only to realize much later that it doesn't matter because no matter what you like or dislike, you're still a man and nobody can take it away.

Yet in their infinite wisdom, Pseudonym had to make it all about trannies rather than having a little bit of empathy for men that don't fit the mold. As usual, trannies are stunted when it comes to things that are not about themselves because "I am the victim here, how dare you make this about yourself". And also, very ironic since trannies are usually the ones that enforce gender stereotypes the hardest.

Bridget from Guilty Gear, Shiver, Astolfo, Naoto Shirogane and of course the crown jewel of trans misinterpretation: Chihiro Fujisaki. It's always surprising that trans people, who claim that gender roles are harmful and should be abolished, always claim crossdressers or GNC characters (and often, real life people) to be trans because of purposefully misunderstanding their lives and personalities. Hell, Bridget started one of the biggest shitstorms about it because of a single out of context line in Strive.

It goes to show that they don't care about the characters or their desires to change their own lives for the better, they just want to feel better about themselves without realizing how fucked up making a character like Bridget (codeword: groomed young man) a trans woman is.

Literally no self awareness, or awareness in general.

I add Akari from How I Became a Pokémon. She once took on a male identity, but she actually liked cool stuff instead of cute stuff. Eventually, her friend Akira told Akari that gender is irrelevant on whether you are a jerk. Once Akari noticed how cool Pikachu was, she learned tha there is n one way of being 'cool'. Sh eventually embraced her female self.
Despite all of the talk that Akari s transgender, Akari s actually a tomboy who struggled with gender stereotypes.

You bringing up Naoto Shirogane reminded me of Kanji Tatsumi, who also struggled with masculinity, since he was not only had a softer, fatherly side but also had an interest in textiles because his grandmother ran a textile shop. The thing is that his female classmates called him a queer because he did not behave 'manly'... which set him in a crisis, which manifested in his hidden self: a Shadow. People who say that he is gay because of his camp gay Shadow forget hat Shadows are distortions of their true selves... and that Shadows outright drop the act and say wha they really want. In this case, Shadow Kanji said that he really wanted acceptance from others. Even then, despite the jokes at his expense, he i straight: he showed an outright attraction to the girl Yukiko Amagi. Despite this, people take the gay jokes at face value and insis that Kanji s gay.
