Why does Tumblr have an obsession with vitiligo?

  • Suicide Girl model and America's Next Top Model contestant have it, spread on Tumblr, that's why.

i took another look at that kickstarter page
its ap a 3d rpg of sorts and the in-game models of the characters surprisingly look... somewhat better than the drawing... from afar
it still looks pretty shite tho, esp how the backgrounds and surroundings dont match the characters and the character dont match any other aesthetic aspect whatsoever, really just looks like random chatroom-type game anime girl models running around on a background drawn in mspaint

it feels like something that, even if its genuine, its the kinda thing that banks too much on being tumblr bait and is never gonna pan out and have to return backers' their money

now if anyone wants to actually PLAY the demo on the page go right ahead cause i really cant be bothered

Holy hell the animation in that last gif is bad. It makes the character look like she's been made out of lumpy mashed potatoes to me.

The kickstarter's actually lost some money since I last checked the page out. I agree with the notion that it's a project made to appeal to tumblr that won't go very far. I might actually play the demo and post what I find if anybody's interested.

As a side note I also realised that the "mayor" of the town in this game is also a character from the lead artist's webcomic here. Hell, she even bears a resemblance to her main character too from the photos she's posted on twitter. The webcomic itself looks like typical tumblr fodder to me (and of course it involves depression for extra oppression points!).

The cakes looks cute, that's the only good thing on this kickstarter page, the game could look better in 2D, all this 3D option and animation are not necessary. It's stiff, amateur and glitchy, the pink girl patting the dog does not even have her eyes matching. How can people think it worth $98,500 ???

I don't understand it either. There's following your dream and realizing you're at your limits. If this person or people want to make this game work, they should not be selling this idea (because that's what you do when you pitch a game. You need people to invest in an idea.) THIS EARLY. What is there to show? And the worst part is I can see an honest to god effort in the work and what they're trying to do. It's just they don't have the experience yet.

If designing has taught me anything, there are some projects you should continue to refine until they're ready. Not perfect, but ready. I don't think they even thought this through. Do people not realize how long and time-tasking making a game is? And also, you need to be able to sell this to enough people so you make money on this. Yeah, you need funds, but crowdfunding will only get you so far. No one is going to buy this game. That's the truth. It looks unfinished, the textures are awful, and there's barely any gameplay. They're lucky if they even get $1000.

I understand that Tumblr makes a big deal out of these "diverse" games, but then they never go out and support them. It's been proven to be the case that the people they're catering to will not help them stay afloat. If they want to make a cute game with diverse characters, fine, but trying to bank on the Tumblr crowd is not a gateway to success. If they want this to work, they need to start from the drawing board and make something presentable because at this point it's another failed crowdfunding project.

Oh look! Another Kickstarter pandering to Tumblr!
What do you think, Kiwis?

This just makes me sad, since the art is really nice in a lot of the trailer. If they didn't pander to "racial diversity and empowerment" i would have wanted to see this come to fruition. Political overtones can ruin a nice-looking presentation easily. :(

The papaer bag test wasn't used to decide who got to be house slaves, house slaves were half black people that were related to a slave owner. They were family that's why that got better treatment. Paper bag test was used by black people to keep other black people out of their social circles. This was internal discrimination, don't blame white people for this still being a problem in black culture today. White people don't care if you're cafe late or ebony.
Just wanted to return to this comment to say how true your statement is about black on black discrimination.

There's this little video that came out in which black Latinos get their DNA traced, and over in the comment section certain users are calling out the lighter skin Africans as being "not true Africans" because they have European blood in them. You can see this sort of sentiment when you read the comment section, if the roles were reversed with white, European, this sort of shit would be flat out racist.

At this point, I think you'd be hard-pressed to find any sort of African American with no "European blood" anywhere in their ancestry.

Somewhere deep in the trenches of black supremacy, they have their own version of a racial chart similar to what the Nazis used.
That reminds me of how a long time ago in America, if you had only 1/8 black ancestry you were considered legally black. There are even all these different words for black/white mixes (1/2 is a mulatto, 1/4 is a quadroon, 1/8 is an octoroon).

Shockingly enough, black supremacists fail to learn anything whatsoever from this shit.

Edit: there’s also apparently hexadecaroon for 1/16 black. For fuck’s sake...

There are a lot of things I could say about these edits, but I'll just let them speak for themselves.

I'm pretty sure that's a frame from the manga, which is of course, black and white. So they went through the effort of finding this and then coloring him purposefully the wrong skin tone. Fuck right off with this exceptional shit.

I just...don't get it. If you color a canonly brown character even a touch lighter than their skin tone you get flamed to death and suicide threats but this is praised? I know this is a common theme in this thread but it still baffles me. *sigh*

Based your work on how "progressive" they are, you can be sure that will not be good. We know nothing about the story, the characters but "O-M-G look at how diverse we are!!! uwu"

If your work is just advertising queer POC and how ""diverse"" you are, you know you fucked up.

I took a gander, and honestly, it's not terrible. The fact that it's asking people to write about their own experiences instead of fitting some arbitrary diversity quota, all while being respectful and not having a shitty superiority complex, puts it head and shoulders above most of the content in this thread. The main thing bringing it down, as with a lot of other specialized anthologies, is that there's a lot of artists and not a whole lot of quality vetting. So you get wildly inconsistent results, like this:

Professional comic strip-style art, DeviantArt anime, 2013 Tumblr-nose cartoons, and sketchbook scribbles, all within the same book. Eesh.

I find that if the thing that people are praising more is your diversity than anything else, you might have to wonder.
