Why does Tumblr have an obsession with vitiligo?

  • Suicide Girl model and America's Next Top Model contestant have it, spread on Tumblr, that's why.

It's funny to me that giving black characters vitiligo has become tumblr artist's tool to prove they're woke, when really it's just a dead giveaway that they don't think black people are "aesthetic" enough and need an easy way to make that pesky dark skin look cool.

That's...a pretty fucking good point. I never thought about it that way, but in places around the world (including some parts in the USA I would debate) there is this stigma of having super dark skin. I wonder if this is just unintentional or actual racism? Maybe these artist see their inherent flaws subconscious and use their "woke"- ness to cover it up? Just a thought.

But yeah, those implications...that's pretty bad.

because tumblr

Christ, they look downright rotten. That Rainbow Dash.

The name disgusting666tyrant is very apt.

These are pretty horrifying!

Why do they all look like deformed corpses? They look like zombies. And the skin color with the Tumblr (tm) Overlay works so badly against it. These would be passable for a young artist if the colors were better, but here..they look so devoid of life.

If the main focus of your art is shitty transcolored headcanons of anime / video game characters, you might as well give up on art. No one cares about your shit identity politics. Seriously, why can't any of these fucks draw something more thought out or original? I know some of these artists are 13-14, but that excuse doesn't last forever.

Watching Tumblr ruin fandoms triggers tf outta me.

Jesus Christ that strawmanning was physically painful to read. It always amazes me that people who clearly have no grasp of politics continue to get jobs as political cartoonists.

These are all done by a fella named Matt Lubchansky, who draws comics for The Nib.

Oh, to get a idea of their enlightened views, take a look at this:

It always amazes me when these people takes things out of context. I saw this post get like 1000's of notes on Tumblr. The thing is...I have a feeling that some of these people haven't met anyone else's political views in real life. That they honestly can't see the reality of certain situations. Are some basic political views black and white? Yeah. But there's also a grey area that you hit every once and awhile. I don't think it's fair for people who don't lean far right/ left to be ridiculed because they aren't on your side. That makes you look like an asshole. What determines a person's worth is how they choose to present themselves and if they are a good person with views that might differ from yours, that's okay.

Now ultimately, you decide to draw line wherever, but if that line is because they aren't doing what you like and prefer, that's wrong. People have the right not to agree with you. If they start to actively harm people around you then that's a problem, but if they aren't, then what is?

This political cartoon has ironically, the best art we've probably seen on this thread, yet it holds such a toxic message. Political cartoons have a bit more subtlety than this. If you want to believe you're right, go on ahead. But people who understandably don't want to push themselves into an extreme are not horrible people, maybe they just aren't sure. And being unsure is perfectly okay.

You haven't seen nothing yet:

In an earlier version of this comic, the girl with the USA flag T-shirt originally had a BLM shirt, but I don't know where it is.

If you want to get an idea of how far the strawmanning goes on The Nib, there's one that positively portrays antifa. Just go to their website and have a good laugh - not at the comics, but at how seriously the cartoonists take themselves - every last one of their comics belongs in /r/comedycemetery. The writing and dialogue of the comics reminds me more of what you would see in propaganda than anything possessing the slightest hint of a sense of humour.

Mikan Tsumiki but she's black for some reason

These are pretty passable. All you need is a small edit to the skin and it works. The expressions are weird, but passable.

I really don't understand people who need to change the skin color to be darker. Is it a sign insecurity? :powerlevel: I don't have super dark skin (I'm pretty medium) but I don't know why people generally accept this?:powerlevel:
