The thing I never understood about trigger warnings is how self-defeating the whole concept is. If the whole idea is to avoid "triggers" of someone's PTSD, then listing all that subject matter before you've even played the game/read the book/etc. would place the traumatized person in that negative state of mind regardless, but without the potential for confronting and dealing with these issues through the art.
It's just so stupid.

Semi-related, but I've noticed a weird surge of arachnophobia warnings and alterations being made...without touching anything else. Spiders no, being horribly devoured yes.

I refuse to believe that many people have actual documented arachnophobia. Spiders are very misunderstood. I feel if you are too sensitive then you should not be playing horror games. I wan tto send every one of these little pansies a copy of the 1990 horror comedy Arachnophobia.

The one positive I can see so far for SHf is that at least the young Japanese women look like young Japanese women. Somehow the public isn't expected to embrace characters that looks like wildly hormonally imbalanced, shovel-jawed troons. Sure, they had to add the warning about how the characters look and act like women and don't demand the whole world plays make-believe with them, but it does make me cautiously optimistic.

Because this one is being made by an actual Japanese team.

The arachnophobia shit is so stupid. I have arachnophobia to a pretty severe degree and yet a spider in a video game does nothing for me. These people are literal nutcases who can’t distinguish between fiction and reality.

It’s a Japanese game, so the women actually look like women.

Hell of a disclaimer for Silent Hill F

This was more than enough of a warning back then, simple and right to the point. No "sowy if your fees are going to be hurt, cover your head with your blankie to create a safe space, we'll tell you when to mute your tv before the big bad meanie says a no no word" nonsense.

People are seriously comparing these to modern Trigger Warnings, and saying "What's the difference?!?"

"You see? They used to have warnings for games and other media that would say 'Viewer discretion is advised.' That's exactly the same as 4 paragraphs of weepy therapy-speak disavowing everything that happened in the world before 2015."

Going to go on an off topic rant, but I want to know what people think. Let's go.

When I was a kid in the 90s, it felt like everyone was allergic to peanuts. "Warning! This product contains nuts!" labels on packets of nuts. "Warning! This product may contain traces of nuts!" on pretty much everything else. KP was close to be delcared a bio weapon.

Then one day, it all went away. The warnings shrunk, but are still there on many products, albeit limited to small text on the back next to ingredients.

This has happened repeatedly since. Trypophobia (the fear of small holes), lactose, gluten, and yes, arachnophobia. So there's either a huge spike of this stuff, or it's just passing fads of pretending to be allergic or afraid of stuff.

This shit already comes on the game cases and ESRB ratings if you absolutely need to know. "There are violent and disturbing images in this game" is also good enough.
Also "looks like siren but worse", yeah way worse. Even Higurashi looks more interesting. I will say it looks like the new Jap cult is using White Claudia which might make our characters hallucinate the otherworld which could be interesting. SILENT HILL in Japan has already been outdone tho, 20 years ago and even expanded on SH1's concepts and premise with Siren 1 and 2. Also had a superior atmosphere.
I like that there are multiple human characters but this looks nothing like Silent Hill nor does it look anything like what team silent had in mind with daylight horror or reusing sh3's darker script ideas. Also its being made by Neoboards, same chinks behind dead rising demake and resident evil multiplayers no one played. Not good.
I want team silent's silent hill 5 or even PT. Not this. Maybe Townfall will deliver better, hopefully. Wish we got news on it.

Also PT looks closer to Silent Hill than the shit we have been getting and I'm tired of pretending it didn't. It is a lot like Silent Hill 4 but trippier. The camera hack proves the devs at Kojimaproductions understood how to make the town of SILENT HILL as well, as they look identical to the 1-4 depictions with the "under construction yet also abandoned" aesthetic and all. And it was only partly shown in the end cutscene!

Ooooooh, Jesus Christ.

Who keeps assigning the WORST possible fucking people to projects that deserve better?!

Because the entire industry fired all the good people who went on to do some else entirely with technical knowledge or artistic vision (moreso the former), went and made their own game, quit out right, or died.

And nobody nowadays wants to learn the foundations of coding and no professional programmer wants to train their replacement.

I would say this is Unity or Unreal engines fault for making games easier to make and push out that damn near every company uses it now.

But the industry has been long fucked over by now. Can’t wait for gaming to return to being niche.

And indie scene could please take its head out of its ass and stoping coping itself or nostalgic properties and be original for once that would be nice…

Sorry for general industry post… it just amazes me how a limitation like fog helped make a series like silent hill what it is.

I think this new Silent Hill F game will be okay... after years of being force fed woke gay shit, trans, blm, feminism, girl bosses etc in games, this game just feels like fresh air. But i bet the modern audiences are already pissing their pants after reading this :story:
"Drug-induced hallucinations", ok so ryukishi07 is using White Claudia from SH1 as another writing trope of his from Higurashi lol. Immediately figured it out from the cultists in the trailer with the weird jar/pot of liquid.

People don't like to admit that SH1 had strafing in it, changing that to a dodge button isn't really a big departure. SH3 had you mowing down zombie dogs with a machine gun, and for completing the game you unlocked a laser sword and a number of joke outfits.
Way to out yourself as some retard who didn't figure out all of SH1's depth compared to other survival horror games of the era and its own franchise. Silent Hill 1 is the only Team Silent game in which you had a dodge button. Harry jumps back, i.e. backsteps. Useful for melee runs and most useful with avoiding the air screamers annoying attacks since it moves Harry's hitbox swiftly compared to anything else you could do, since running away from the flying enemies like most normal players end up doing, doesn't work well and then they blame the game for being jank instead of realizing they just suck at tank controlled games. You perform a dodge by pressing the run button twice and trying to walk backwards iirc. Silent Hill 1's dodge mechanic is how it should be done. sh2 remake has no nuance and it isn't quite situational. It breaks the flow of 2 remake, when you can just dodge past everything rather than have it as a tool for certain attacks.

The people who shit on Silent Hill 1-3's combat quite literally play the games at limited perspectives. They dont even know the fucking camera controls lol. They'll play the games in one same shot and blame the game for being rougher than it actually is. Its always a habit for me to toy around with older game controls since devs back then put in a lot more work than people give them credit for. There's so much more depth than modern gaming and late 2000s gaming contained in these old classics. It is an unpopular opinion but I actually prefer the way Silent Hill did things with its combat compared to the resident evil trilogy. You may not think as much about resources on normal runs but there is a smooth flow to it that I like. The hit feedback is stellar, and enemies have blood pools and nice particles that RE didn't have for a while. Its no RE4 but it was at the top of its genre, for me personally due to the many different ways you could approach combat. 10 star runs are also fascinating.

Newfag here, played 2 for the first time. Just wanted to say very depressing game. I don't think I've experienced anything as depressing as this and frankly it's fucking with me. Abstract daddy's design especially is sticking in my brain, I've not seen anything quite so horrible. And I don't know why people say James hated his wife, it comes across as euthanasia to me, the man was not abused to the point that he may hate his clearly sick wife. Imo he was just depressed with the state of things and wanted to euthanize her so both of them could be peaceful.

Peanut allergies are lethal. The warnings were there so the companies wouldn't be sued and people wouldn't asphyxiate. It's not comparable to having a made up internet phobia like trypophobia or being scared of spiders.
