In the remaining Hunter gatherer tribes living today, monogamy is the norm. It isn’t as strict about keeping a lifelong partner, it can be serial. Polygamy became more common after large scale agriculture, when certain men could amass more resources than others and keep them. This allowed him to take more wives.
That doesn’t make it right or sustainable for societal growth.

Our babies are extremely vulnerable even compared to other apes. For the mother, it would’ve paid to have an active male watching over her and her infant’s every whim. For men, the advantage would be knowing the infant was most likely his.

I always thought it was a terrible idea. However, as I get older my wife and I are basically housemates without benefits. She's done with sex but I'm still in my prime. I'm committed to my wife and can't dump her. I don't have an heir and I'm going to own a couple properties that are going to be a hassle to take care of.

Bottom line: harems are starting to make more sense to me.

Just find a way to make her dishonor you and honor kill her.
