Should anime avatars be publicly beheaded? - Or should stoning be a priority?

STERN!.jpg THEY’RE NOTHING BUT LOW-DOWN, DOUBLE-DEALING, BACKSTABBING, LARCENOUS PERVERTED WORMS! BEHEADING’S TOO GOOD FOR ’EM! STONING'S TOO GOOD FOR EM! THEY SHOULD BE TORN INTO LITTLE BITSY PIECES AND BURIED ALIVE!

Is there any treatise out there that attempts to defend/justify the consumption of anime by adult western audiences? Admittedly I havent watched much anime. I have tried some of the most popular "beloved" series and they were boring and kind of irritating in a way thats hard to describe. Is death note and akira supposed to be for children? The dubbed stuff is horrific. Even with subs, the translations seem like they were churned out for the not so discerning child or teenage viewer.

I'm not sure about the anime avatar question. Perhaps some of the anime avatars hide their interest in anime from their IRL friends and like to "let loose" when they can with internet anonymity and use an anime character as their avatar. We all have our guilty pleasures, so whats the harm? I'm old, but maybe some of them just fall into the nostalgia trap because they watched anime as kids and just watch a few shows when they are alone. Maybe there are even some anime avatars who also read literature, create interesting (non fanfiction/anime) art, and are talented and interesting. I'm just saying that there could potentially be some corner cases in which anime avatars can be reformed.

In my opinion, stoning and public beheading are both too theatrical. There should be a robust, procedural method of identifying anime avatars, which would be easy to implement by monitoring conventions and perhaps an anonymous tip line. Each suspected offender would be apprehended and brought in for inspection and interview. If the state can prove that they are a retarded anime fag unworthy of life, perhaps a dignified, private lethal injection in the comfort of their own home would be the most humane way to do the job.

what did anime avatars do to you besides fucking your crush before you?
It's a well-known fact that every anime avatar is a minor-attracted person and I don't like maps. You don't put the world on paper; that's silly.

Most anime is Shonen and, Shonen is explicitly written for adolescents and teenagers. That's why anime protagonists are usually underage.

You'd probably like anime more if you were either a child, or grew up watching it as a child.

Yes there's reasons that people who like anime sperg about only watching subs.
Akira is fucking old and the subs are clumsy, but the characters in Akira have a deliberately kinda whimsical naivety in their attitude that contrasts with the cyberpunk setting, sort of like the language in A Clockwork Orange. Kaneda in the manga is basically a dickhead Tintin.

This is not something you're going to pick up (or should expect to) in a foreign film if you don't usually watch similar stuff. This is one major reason for avoiding dubs: nuance in delivery and variation which you kinda need in a cartoon because you don't get so much from the picture. It's not universal (good stuff with good direction may have good acting as an important element, bad stuff doesn't, like anything) and picking it up through the filter of different cultural, linguistic and creative conventions is an intuitive skill but requires sufficient exposure.

I don't remember Death Note real well but it's obviously dumb sci-fi pulp and not high art, you should be able to discriminate that. If you find it amusing, cool, if it's not to your taste then watch something else. Liking anime isn't really categorical, it's not a genre. 90% of it is shit like anything else.
I'll watch anything in any language if it's entertaining, it's people who have weird rubicons about medium that seem weird to me.

And to answer the question, people use anime avatars ironically because it pisses people off. It has nothing to do with liking anime. You are powerless OP, squirm in impotence

Anime avatars are fine, maybe a bit stupid, but generally harmless.

Nikado avatars, porn avatars and the like? Those people are like junkies at a park. Do not relax around them.
