Jesus christ these bitches steal a lot of underwear. They're giving the underwear gnomes from Southpark some real competition.

Home on lunch. I gotta share this. Tumblr? No. Shoplifters? Yes.

My boss, tired of us being basically on our own to stop shoplifters, brought in his laptop, webcam and a 30 foot USB cable to work today. After some fiddling/adjusting/etc. he propped up right beside the intercom with his PC & we started live streaming the entire meat counter.

And it has been fucking glorious. We've been scaring the shit out of lifters all day.

Dude will come up- look around in what is an apparently empty meat department- and as soon as that pack of steaks goes into his jacket, my Boss is on the intercom "SECURITY TO THE MEAT DEPARTMENT!". Then me & the other three cutters are out the doors like gangbusters, All "OH HAI THAR! CANNA HELP YA?" at the lifter.

So far we've stopped eight lifters, had three packs of meat thrown at us, and I think my pork cutter made one dude wet himself.
I for one would watch the hell out of this as a reality TV show.

There's this beauty supply store in my town that plasters their front door with pictures of shoplifters they caught on their security camera.

I think this is an interesting idea and I am looking forward to these Tumblrina shoplifter chimpouts. I am currently working part time in retail (though I might have to quit for personal reasons) and I know how much shoplifting can affect the workers and the prices in the store.

I know someone brought it up earlier but has anyone thought of sending the businesses these details, particularly if one of these idiots was stupid enough to included selfies on their Tumblr page? I would think that they would be interested in knowing these details, if not prosecuting them but at least keeping an eye out for them.

I would join in on this fun but I am pretty much computer illiterate.

Just a idea and I haven't tried it yet, I'm still looking for a good target but...

If you find a lifters blog where there is a selfie picture i'd give a reverse image search a try, it can turn up results from Facebook and you might get lucky.

How do you do a reverse image search?

Slightly off topic, but some kid lifted one of our tester batteries (I work in a vape shop). It was old, and frankly if he was that desperate I would have donated it to him.

He forgot we know his mum, who will be receiving a phone call.

I don't really have a stake in this one way or the other, just came by to drop my two cents:

Busting these entitled spoiled rich brats committing crimes for a cheap thrill is a good thing no matter your motives. If you're doing it for justice, good, these assholes fucking over people via the crime of theft need to learn it doesn't pay, either in thrill or lucre. If you're doing it for the lulz, just as good a motive, and ultimately, maybe a little shame will teach these dingleberrys hanging from the ass of society that signalboosting their own thefts on social media is fucking stupid and that they deserve every bit of misery they earned for advertising their stupidity in public view.

However, that's immaterial, these little bastards are prime lolcows just begging to be milked, and to all involved in exposing these fools to the consequences of their actions, good luck and have fun harvesting the tears. :)

As someone who was a victim of multiple thefts, I am totally behind this. Godspeed.

They threw merchandise at you?

they often can get more then just an ip with the tracking tools they use but even if it is just an ip it can be pretty easy to dox you. if you use skype for example anyone can run the ip through a canned program to find your skype. the other risk is that they see where you were linked from, come here, and all the low hanging fruit cleans up they're blogs after the alarm is raised
Hmm, I'm curious about this. I can't seem to get any ip->skype resolvers to successfully return my username.
Calling all Kiwi nerds. Let's scale this up.

Using the Tumblr API it should be trivial to get photos from posts which have particular tags. This would let us harvest all the pics tagged with common Tumblr lifting community tags. This gives us our search list.

Then, we'd need a metadata extractor. Like this one.

This would let us process our search list and identify which pictures have location or serial number information.

As the icing on the cake we could use Google Maps or Openstreetmap to plot the geo-tagged pictures. Kind of like this guy's tool. We could probably automate archiving all the photos with usable data. Or we could just have an output list of URLs showing only usable photos, and do the legwork manually.

Full disclosure: I'm not good enough to code this, but I think that a service which pulls in photos and determines which ones have usable info is a) very possible to make because all the components are out there and b) something which this website would get a lot of mileage out of.
Ok, so, I threw together something of a prototype. It's attached in the zipfile below. Unzip it somewhere and tumblr.html in your browser. I was going to have something on github so we could collaborate, but ssh+git can be kind of a pain in the ass to get privacy right with. So, I don't know, I'll look into that stuff later.

So, the basic idea about what I made is, is that it uses the tumblr API to look up images for a given tag (say, "shoplifting") and it returns a list of them on the left side. When a picture has location information, it'll say under it, "Contains location information". Then you can click on the image and get a link to the exif data and the original post.

Now, the GUI is awful, the design and html and everything is awful. I'm not very good at making stuff look pretty/usable. This is just a jumping off point for people.

Sometimes I've noticed that some images have 0.0,0.0 for the coordinates. I might introduce something to filter that out.

Also, something to note is that you might not get pictures every time you click "more images...". The reason behind this is that my code filters out all the non-photo posts. So while my code requests 20 posts every time you click, not all of those 20 posts will have pictures. If you click again, then it'll request the next 20 posts, which might have pictures in them.

Also, you need to have an API key to use the tumblr API. Now, because this is a client side thing, the API code is in my code literally. Which means someone can steal it and get this thing banned from tumblr. I tried to just barely obfuscate it, so maybe that'll just buy us time. But this just means that when it does get banned, you can get your own tumblr account, go in, and make your own API key.

Anyway, hopefully this is useful to someone. Or at least the code might be useful to people.

NOTE: I HAVE MADE A NEW VERSION OF THIS. GO GET THAT INSTEAD

This is Liftinglolita. I don't have the time to report her, and if she hasn't been found already I'd appreciate it if someone else could take the time to wipe these scum off the earth.

Awesome. Something to note, is that you should probably use the google maps link in the regex.info page. I list the coordinates in my tool just so you can note when they blanked the coordinates out to 0.0,0.0, but javascript's number precision isn't that good. If they're doing it server-side on regex.info, it might be more accurate.

I know I feel better being on the side of justice and righteousness! This is a wonderful cause! I cannot wait to get these baddies in trouble! Forget chimpouts! For once good will prevail!
Dude, I don't even know what you're shitposting about. The only people who I've seen post about wanting to do it for 'justice' are the few people who actually have to deal with shoplifters at their own stores and want to shame them, everyone else pretty much only cares because they want to see these girls freak out. Who cares if they do it out of spite if the end result is the same?
