What I don't understand from that cat lifting is whether it was an old cat (the room was for old cats), or a kitten (as they refer to it). I kinda don't care if the cat was to be put down if no one was interested in it, but then lifting at PetSmart makes any slight bit of morality in the original lift fade away.
EDIT: TheAmazingAxolotl pretty much sniped me in saying the same opinion, but still.

It seems some people are not reading or misunderstanding nulls challenge

I pose a challenge: For every person who manages to identify, turn in to police, and get a Tumblr Lifter to chimp out on a blog, I will award you a forum trophy and a mystery prize.

This isn't a moral crusade. We want chimp outs and laughs.

This has got to be a new low.

Got Hola! Better Internet. But I am hunting on search for people I know are too tech-illiterate to have that running.

No, do not use Hola. Hola sets up your computer as an exit node without being clear about it, which means that all sorts of nasty shit is coming our your own IP address.

I've tracked down one lifting blog and will send off my findings in the morning. I'm currently stuck with another, however. I've found two addresses but I can't find anything at either one, as neither inhabitant is listed as having children. It might be just a general area (i.e. one of say six houses) and for the moment is beyond my skills and patience. I hope it's ok if I put up what I have, in case anyone else would like to have a crack at it. It should be fairly obvious if you do find out the owner - there'll be a tell-tale sign.

all this makes me think of some super hero called "Kiwi Man".
He's like a Kiwi themed batman who uses the Kiwi-Computer to track down shop lifters and fight his rogue galleries.

What's the risk in a Tumblr shoplifter knowing the IP address of people visiting their page?
they often can get more then just an ip with the tracking tools they use but even if it is just an ip it can be pretty easy to dox you. if you use skype for example anyone can run the ip through a canned program to find your skype. the other risk is that they see where you were linked from, come here, and all the low hanging fruit cleans up they're blogs after the alarm is raised
Halp, I got one but they're in New Brunswick and I'm having trouble finding any police information that isn't the goddamn Mounties. What do, Canadian Kiwis?
the mounties are like our FBI but they also function as a normal police force if it is a town/city that doesn't have it's own municipal police force they are the ones you want to talk to.

Is it better to send it to the police though, or to the stores in the area where these people lift from? At least the police in my state are sort of "eh" about shoplifting unless they get called by/to the actual store. Stores however can be fucking ruthless about prosecuting shoplifters and a shoplifter being blacklisted from their favorite haunt seems like it'd produce a funnier chimpout.

Gotcha, little stealer:
Original Tumblr post (might get deleted because I shared their address on Tumblr, and no, I don't give a damn about it): https://archive.is/DPuMF
My Tumblr post exposing them: https://archive.is/RPiNF
EXIF: https://archive.is/7LW2q
If anyone wants to report them to the police, be my guest.

Do you want them to start stripping all their meta data from their photos? Your tumblr is a terrible idea and you need to deactivate it before they all discover how we're doxing them.

You might get outed to people who are smarter than the tumblr lifters. It's not a huge issue, it's not like it's illegal to turn in fucking criminals, after all, but you might blow your anonymity. Whether you care about that is up to you.

I've sent an anonymous tip to the local authorities, and sent her an ask letting her know.

Now, we wait.

Why would you let her know? Now she's going to delete fucking everything, and while you have archives, I'm sure the cops would rather see it live. Plus she's gonna chimp out so much harder if she gets a visit from the police and has no idea why or how she was caught.

The first thing that usually happens when someone gets caught doing this sort of thing is a subpoena of their social media records. This includes things they may have deleted. Now that the police know, they'll likely be looking at her social media presence, and given that the incriminating photos and posts have been archived, they'll be looking specifically for those posts; at this point, attempting to delete the evidence would be just as illegal as the shoplifting.

Besides, it'll be fun to watch the meltdown now that she's aware the police are going to be involved. The funniest thing will be if she has a meltdown and the police don't even do anything.

She doesn't buy it anyway.

The thing is, her Exif only pointed to central Canada. I don't know whether it's in Sasketchewan or Alberta. What do?
