I had a particularly bad klepto “friend” of mine who used to always inch very close to throwing me under the bus to somehow pinpoint the blame for his stealing on me on the offchance he ever got caught.
He also wanted to encourage me to start stealing larger items myself, as if to somehow be able to use me in his lust for materialism... of course, though I did go through a klepto phase myself due to my bad influence friends, mainly stealing nail polish, facemasks and small items... after awhile I realized it wasn’t worth the risk. Good riddance. I almost got caught stealing from multiple places, including my own former workplace, was always extremely paranoid, anxiety up the wazoo that I’d get caught. The moment I finally decided to stop stealing for good, was the moment that burden was lifted from my shoulders. It’s not like I was a chronic lifter, but I certainly was bad enough that I probably stole hundreds in merchandise, just from all the small items I amassed from only a couple months of this kind of activity. It really disgusts me in hindsight how greedy I was, so im honest to god happy I ditched the habit, and those losers I called my friends.
As for the guy, the lazy bastard couldn’t even keep a job and is still on and off homeless last I checked according to his social media profiles
moral of the story is don’t be friends with kleptos, it’s not worth any of the shit they steal for you because most of them are selfish pricks who’ll try and drag you down to their level. Moreover, avoid stealing period. Capitalism sucks, but it’s not worth the commupance you feel like you’re going to get for stealing, so it’s better to just pay your damn way through life than face the consequences of thievery.
