A 29-year-old scenario writer, the author of a popular manga serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump, was arrested for acting indecently on junior high school girls on the street. Another junior high school student suffered similar damage nearby and is being investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department.

The person arrested was Tatsuya Matsuki (29), a scenario writer in Nakano-ku, Tokyo.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, about 8 o'clock on June 18th, there is a suspicion of obscene compulsion for approaching a bicycle from behind a junior high school girl who was walking on the street in Nakano Ward and touching her body.

After that, the police escaped from the scene by bicycle, and the Metropolitan Police Department, which received the report, was investigating by analyzing the image of the security camera.

Also, about an hour later, another female junior high school student suffered similar damage on a nearby street, and a person very similar to Suspect Matsuki was seen on a security camera, so we are investigating the relationship.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, he has admitted the suspicion by making a statement that he said, "There is almost no mistake," in response to the investigation.

The suspect was active under the pen name "Matsukitatsuya" and was in charge of the original of the popular manga "Act-Age" serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump.
So a Shonen Jump writer got busted for stalking a teenager in the streets lmao.

So people are seriously wondering what will happen with Act-Age now. Shit was getting a stage play, an anime, foreign releases... and it was the type of show that was going to branch out their demographic to the female audience outside of sports (which make the fact that the writer was a pedo much more sad). But while it was by no means fodder, it wasn't too big to fail like Rurouni Kenshin.

While it is rare there have been cases in the past where duos like this that have had a falling out end up being taken over by the artist (Ajin, Kokou no Hito) but the thing with Act-Age is that the author had actual experience with the film industry, script writing, etc. Most people are expecting it to get canceled, but there is a chance they'll try to save it by either replacing the author or making the artist do it. Shounen Jump has been bleeding series this past year, they might be desperate enough to save it.

I was actually reading this manga, and it was alright, it was basically a battle shounen but with acting. Not my favorite in the magazine, but it usually ranked nearer to the top than the bottom. Apparently its selling out now, most likely from people expecting it to become a rare collector's item.

Edit: nevermind lol, shit's dead. RIP Yonagi, she never got her movie.

Oh no real punch line..just because of how terrible and utterly butt fuck insane the series has gone. If the headline had said.

"Attack on Titan Writer has gone insane, arrested for stalking a 12 year old."

I would be like.

"Oh he is fucking crazy, okay..that explains The past year of Attack on Titan."
Eren did nothing wrong.

He never spent a day in jail for that either. He was sentenced to 2 years, but then it was suspended, and afterwards he was allowed to return to work for Shonen Jump and win tons of awards.

And boy, I wonder why...

Eiichiro Oda! How strange...he always seems to be friends with other mangaka caught for being pedophiles! He's also friends with and was mentored by Nobuhiro Watsuki.
Watsuki also, as mentioned before, arrested for owning CP, but was released and allowed to work on WSJ again.

Very...

Interesting...

Not that anything would ever come out against Oda, WSJ and he are way too far deep and connected for that to happen anyway. Just know he might be a little shady, i dunno...

Keep in mind, Japan is a country where Chikan/train-groping is so common place and unpunished that entire female-only passenger cabs had to be created, and signs had to be made to warn young girls about creepers trying to touch them.
Ironic given one of the guys who founded The One Piece Podcast is an animu LawTwitter user and KickVicer. I wonder if they know Oda is a pedo?

Kosuke Fujishima, who didn't create Sakura Wars, but worked as a character designer with Hidenori Matsubara. Unsurprisingly, Fujishima hasn't worked on anything since 2017.

He was married for years, only to divorce conveniently around the time he started seeing the cosplayer.

fwiw he didn't keep her as a side-piece or something and made a clear cut. people getting involved with other people happens all the time, it's just how humans roll, and while it is a shit-sandwich without a winner there are better and worse ways to handle it. I mean, what would be options really?

Watsuki's a sick fuck. Only reason he's freed is because he's connected WSJ, one of Japan's biggest magazines, and Oda, Japan's most popular mangaka. He only had to pay $1800 for his crimes, absolutely no jail time. Bastard even fully confessed to being a pedophile who "liked girls in late elementary school to around the second year of middle school." (aka ages 8-12)

It's absolutely cartoonish. Pierre Taki, Noriko Sakai, and Erika Sawajiri have their media careers ruined forever, loosing contracts and jobs worth billions of dollars because they did possessed or abused drugs, meanwhile kiddie diddlers like Watsuki get to walk free with absolutely no jail time.

Japanese law is weird, same with the social stigmas and punishments around it.

eh, I don't know. probably easier to keep yourself from diddling kids than go cold turkey from hard drugs over night (assuming, since I never had the urge for either). former even more so when you can still be a somewhat functioning member of society. a hard stance on drugs and it's effects probably has a bigger effect on society at large than a statistically insignificant number of people being into petite bodyframes or certain personalities.

also, hot take: liking kids isn't a crime (inb4 pedo), diddling is. not sure if that quote was ever clarified, the biggest problem when it comes to that topic is that you simply can't talk about it levelheaded without someone screeching. same way with pictures - pictures of what? 2d isn't 3d, gravure isn't hardcore pornography (which is banned and prosecuted for a very good reason). going into why and how someone likes kids is almost impossible, when it gets generalized to the degree any male having a pin-up is a potential rapist.

Kuroneko wuz robbed.

Ditto for Yamada Elf.

ironically kuroneko wins in a manga story line where he ends up with her. dunno if he wanted to "fix" the story or keep the fans happy, but given there's also an ayase ending released just last year I assume the latter. which I also find mostly annoying, either decide on one ending as the author or keep it open enough everybody can come to their own conclusions. VN style "routes" in linear written harems is imo trying to have your cake and eat it too.
but overall even without those alternate endings the story closes in such a fucking retarded nonsensical way I've hardly ever seen before, it hardly resolves anything and what it does makes everything worse, incest angle or not. like why the fuck does kanako suddenly want his dick too?

least he was smarter with eromanga-sensei keeping the tone lighter, the ending open (least in in the anime) and make them not blood related (which some might consider a cop-out).
EDIT: and way better characters. the brother in oreimo is a fucking simp even compared to the usual harem protagonists, sister is a stupid cunt way outside tsundere-territory. "but she's the one with common sense". fucking what. I think that's the other thing that turned me off from it, the two main characters are shit and you have no reason to root for them. fuck, the only reason I wanted a ruri ending was because it would've made her happy.
it's still immensely popular for some reason in japan.

Since one of the announcements hasn't been linked: Act-Age is formally canceled.

Watsuki's a sick fuck. Only reason he's freed is because he's connected WSJ, one of Japan's biggest magazines, and Oda, Japan's most popular mangaka. He only had to pay $1800 for his crimes, absolutely no jail time.
No, Watsuki's free because when Japan finally banned possession of cp back in 2014 (creation and selling of cp was illegal prior to that IIRC, and I think they may have just had a loop hole about child nudity left), the penalties for possession were set to up to a year of jail time, or up to a $10,000 fine (by the exchange rate of the time, so probably something like ¥1,000,000). Given he was arrested back in 2017, he'd be free now regardless, even if they'd hit him with the maximum penalties.

Him still having gainful employment as a mangaka may be due to his connections at Shueisha. Those connections may include Oda, but I'd wager the money he's made them in the past and his own buddies at the publisher had more to do with it. However that's a separate issue from him being out of jail and having a low fine.

Some people here might be surprised but the manga "Act Age" is very clean with no real lewdness at all especially none you would expect from a shonen manga.
So what you are saying is we should arrest anyone who makes tame manga because they are clearly pedos?
