A paid guest at your convention is wearing a shirt you find offensive.

Do you:
Respond like a professional, remove him from your convention, and make a statement saying "A guest was wearing a shirt I found unacceptable so he was removed from the convention"

Or Do you:
Ban him from the convention and say: "This guy was wearing an asshole shirt and I threw him out and oh yes, also I almost physically assaulted him."

As an aside, Shane was no more going to swing on someone than Shane was going to fite anyone here IRL back a few weeks ago when he showed up threatening violence. You're not a tough guy, Shane. You're a doughy windbag.

Didn't someone like @Not A Bug heavily suggest that Shane retired 'in lieu of being fired'? Seems dumb to virtue flex on people about it when there's dirt they can drop on you in response. But then again, it's Shane, so I'd be confused if anything he did seemed smart.

Option 3: Be an ACTUAL professional and quietly confront him, requesting that he cover the shirt in some way to avoid causing drama at the con, don't throw him out, and never make an announcement drawing attention to it, avoiding making anyone upset, losing any money, or potentially making your con look bad,

He was allowed to resign in lieu of being fired so he crows about how he quit which is technically true. He also came about one FB post from a libel suit afterward but, in a rare moment of wisdom, retracted the stuff.

So he retracted things right before he got sued for implying that A-Kon was the problem when he was fired, and now that the management's changed he's gotten bold enough to try again? Seems even more stupid.

Shane is a compelling argument for why not to allow people to gracefully retire instead of firing them. Or at least he's a compelling argument for why Shane should never be allowed a more dignified option.

  • Males wearing tight-fitting costumes are required to wear a dance belt.
  • Shoes are required at all times.

They also appeared to have had a kid's cosplay catwalk. Which is, considering Shane's current wife and the context he offered about it, a little bit....off-putting.
4-15 are kids. 16 and up are 'grown up' cosplayers. 17 is the legal age in texas. for the record.

  • This is a PG13 event and all cosplay must cover swimsuit areas – no nudity
  • Costumes and clothing should not expose the body in such a way as to be deemed indecent exposure by the City of Dallas. Private parts must be covered in an opaque material that will not slip or have gaps.
So many funny rules in here, but I guess there is such a thing as having to state the obvious. Wonder how he deals with certain female cosplayers, I mean one of their guests (and this was the photo used) was...

Reminds me of a story Crispin Freeman talked about regarding ...oh what was it exactly? The most awkward cosplay he's seen? Probably was that. In any case, the cosplay in question was someone who went in as another infamous Rey (i.e. NGE's Rei) but apparently wearing a towel and I'd imagine something below that. Let me find the relevant youtube clip.

Yeah...so much modesty and lack of exploitation in anime conventions right? Give me a break. As far as I'm concerned, you folks in anime conventions and a few of the "fans" who obsessed over them instead of just go there for well-wishing (like in the case with Vic after he got fired) are just a few steps shy of furries when it comes to total depravity. But of course the problem in the community is Vic...mhm.

Hey @Shane_Yes_That_One, why are you harassing and banning a man from your convention, citing his t-shirt as being the deciding factor as "this isn't Vic-con", when it wasn't even about Vic? Seems very prejudicial of you to ban a man and essentially steal his money by donating it instead of refunding it as a competent con-owner would've done.

I'll tell you a story at the risk of a powerlevel...

One year of our convention, we had a bunch of morons flocking on reddit to bash us and spread false rumors about our event.

We found out that one of the people who had been the most vocal, actually purchased a table from us and was actively telling people to stay away from the convention and buy her shit from her etsy, while she went to our event anyway.

We figured out who it was, confirmed via multiple sources who it was, and during the convention quietly approached her, showed her that we saw her posts on reddit and told her that she's welcome to stay for the remaining time, we weren't removing her. We also made it very clear that she wouldn't be coming back again.

She stayed the rest of the day, and packed her shit, didn't come back for day 2, and never said a word online about it again.

We had another redditer popping off pre-show about how much they hated us, but we identified who it was beforehand and reached out to them via e-mail, and told them while we didn't have to refund their table (we have a no-refunds policy) we would be refunding their purchase in full, and asking them not to show up because it's clear they don't want to be there, and we don't want them there.

That one we got a full apology for their reaction online, and full lamentation of ruining their opportunity.

Moral of the story, even if the people damn well deserve it... if you out-class them, you don't look like a clown at the end of it. Shane is not only a clown, he's three rings AND the circus.

I remember that story. It's one of the things that made me determine Crispin is actually class personified. But it's also a good point of just how carefree and wild cons were until the SJWs moved in and started telling everyone what was okay, how to have fun, and COSPLAY IS NOT CONSENT, STOP LOOKING AT ME EVEN WHEN I'M DRESSED UP LIKE AN ACTUAL STRIPPER

Why would you punch someone over a Darkiplier t-shirt?? ok, 'anti-LP fandom' is obnoxious, but unless Shane's also punching everyone with an MLP shirt, I don't see how it matters here

Exactly. It's not just convention sense. It's basic business and customer service sense. You deal with disruptions privately, as quietly as possible, and causing as little ripples and hard feelings as possible. You don't bellyflop into the pool and splash around as loud as you can so everyone can watch you take out the trash. It's why we likely won't ever know for sure how Toei will react to Funimation's stupid behavior, because they're smart enough to handle it behind closed doors, rather than roll in the mud and upset their customers.
 
By doing it this way Shane got to show everyone how important he is, which was really the whole point of the exercise. After all, if he has the power to throw someone out of a convention, he can't possibly really be a sad and insignificant joke of a man, can he? He's not a weak and soft rapidly aging loser, he was this close to beating the guy up!

In reality the joke, as always, is on him. He's still a sad and insignificant clown of a man and now he's shown the world that given any sort of authority, no matter how small, he will wield that authority in as capricious and petty a manner as possible. Luckily for him he's chosen a business which seems chock-full of petty and incompetent back-biting gossipy losers who have no idea how to run anything along professional lines. Even so, in the sad pool of con employees Shane still manages to stand out as one of the most pathetic.
