I know one of the rules here is not to get mad at the internet. But this last statement seriously makes me have to resist the urge to shoot this fucker. Violence isn't the answer, even when you want it to be.
I will reiterate Brett Weinstein's list of 8 bad assumptions and 3 bad conclusions SJW types tend to make. Look through Shane's tweetstorm today and see how many you can identify.
Bad Assumptions:
1: Lived experience trumps population analysis, hard data, and evidence. Emotion matters. Facts do not.
2: Reasonable people cannot disagree. Or otherwise stated: Everyone who disagrees is being unreasonable.
3: Inquiry is a bad thing. Marginalized voices are only not listened to due to racism and sexism, and never because their ideas are bad or they're incorrect.
4: Meritocracy is a trap. It's an excuse to allow the majority to continue to oppress the minorities under the guise of "their product is better".
5: All human talent is utterly and completely interchangeable. You can simply swap out whomever is lecturing at the podium with anyone else with no negative consequences.
6: Discomfort is injury. Speech is violence. Criticism is harassment.
7: Anytime you are on the defensive, your opponent has "pulled a fast one". There is no such thing as a good faith disagreement with your position.
8: When your opponent makes gains, there has been a conspiracy amongst them to accomplish them.
Bad Conclusions:
1: If you oppose an equity proposal, or stand against plans that only seek to "increase diversity and inclusion", you are against diversity, inclusion, and equity as concepts. Regardless of the quality of those plans and possible knock on effects.
2: If you defend yourself against an accusation, the fact that you're defending yourself against the accusation is evidence of your guilt.
3: If you openly stand against the narrative that we live in a white supremacist world, then you are, by definition, acting in bad faith, and are only grifting or seeking to preserve your own privilege and the rewards the system gives you.
