Shadow the Hedgehog Appreciation Thread

I remember that this game and Sonic Heroes were some of the handful of games we actually owned and didn’t just rent for the GameCube. It was something else.
As a kid I thought it looked great and played well, but now I know that I thought that about pretty much every game from that age. Now it just looks decent for GameCube and controls weirdly. If it was just tightened up in the gameplay and quest departments, it would be fine.
But the story, that’s where things got interesting. It has, for a Sonic game, an absurd amount of branching story paths. They clearly put time and effort into each combination of good, neutral, and evil choices you could make. But, and this is a very important but, it’s a bunch of fucking hedgehogs saying these words. And the president. And an alien. It’s unintentionally hilarious.
So, if you don’t mind some weird feeling controls and are in the mood for a fascinating experience about edge, hedgehogs, and branching stories, Shadow the Hedgehog is worth playing. If only to know what it’s like to play an edgy fanfiction.
 
if I had to only recommend 3 sonic games to explain the franchise to someone then Shadow would have to be one of them. it fails completely and with total unabashed earnestness. it is crystallized teen angst, no hiding behind ironic self-awareness. another 10 years will pass and it will still be one of the most discussed sonic titles.

we grow out of the immaturity of our youths by forgetting, or imagining that was never us. try-hard shadow and rouge the titty bat are perfect avatars for the perpetual embarrassing reminder.

got the game on my 14 birthday. at the time, i thought it was the tightest shit ever but after replaying it last year, it was ok. some of the levels and missions were god awful and you had to plan your route so you would dodge the worst of them but still get the ending you want. it still have some nice levels and soundtrack like every other "soinc" game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNzji6UhYJY

the game was more cheesy then edgy. in fact, the edginess only made it more cheesy in my opinion.
 
The great thing about Shadow the Hedgehog is the complete lack of self-awareness. He's a damn hell ass chibi hedgehog. It's a wonderful, horrible game.
