Air Force is entering the eye.

The strongest landfalling Atlantic hurricane ever measured is the Labor Day Hurricane, which had a minimum pressure of 892mbs at landfall.
We are going to demolish that record sadly.
Edit: looks like it's at about 893, we'll see the results shortly

The USAF plane has been flying around the eye for 20 minutes. Hopefully this is because they are wanting to gather as much data as possible and not because it is too dangerous to go back through the eyewall.

That last drop test recorded close to the mathematical limit of hurricane intensity. 893 MB, with speeds of 190. I imagine they will want to get a second test before confirming that.

After being through three Hurricanes, naturally, in my life I've come to the conclusion they are the natural equivalent of a nuclear bomb; as far as property destruction. Haven't looked at the numbers of loss of life between natural disasters. Legit though, the IR image reminds me of a sentient black hole, like frickin' Marvel villain level lunacy.

Dropsonde measured 893 with 10 knots of wind, which is good for 892.

On the other side of the storm, Kermit is having second thoughts about going in and with good cause.

Will be tied with the 1935 Labor Day Hurricane as the deepest atmospheric pressure at landfall for a tropical cyclone anywhere on earth.

892.5 mbs according to what I heard on Ryan Hall's stream. edit: 185MPH wind speed
