God, I'm getting so sick and tired of this "realism" all these fighters have been going for ever since the graphics "improved". It's getting to the point you can't distinct one 3d fighter from the other.

Also:
>not using the iconic impact/hit/strike noises from the previous games
really not helping their case

If you read the replies to the video on YouTube and Twitter there are people complaining about the game not being "realistic" enough or the new punching sounds needing more bass to them ... If it's not ultra flashy like Tekken or Street Fighter then FGC casuals are always going to find something to complain about for no reason.

How is a close-up of the dude getting his teeth smashed out of his mouth with blood spats, spit, and sweat at the very end of the video not realistic enough?

At that point, just forget 3d models, just have IRL people beat the shit out of each other and just record it.

This is fighting game of the decade material right here, can't wait to get my hands on this game 💪

That'd actually be pretty interesting today. Feels inevitable, hopefully it happens.
It won't... for many reasons.

The reason why it worked so well in Mortal Kombat when it was first introduced is because they used actual martial artists (or actors that knew marital arts) to do the moves. Back then they were only working with sprite technology, so it was a lot easier to remove a bunch of frames and use them however they liked. For example, every jump attack in MK1 is only 1 frame of animation. Considering this is set in a fantasy world, they had a lot of room to go ham on the silliness, even if said silliness involved gore and death.

You can't really do that kind of stuff if you decide to just stick two people behind a green screen and hit record. For one thing, they still are in the realm of fantasy which means the characters in modern fighters are already mo-caped to high holy hell in order to perform the moves that they do. If you've ever seen how mo-cap is performed, they basically stick a person in a onesie skinsuit while they perform the moves and the computer records them so the animators can apply the models onto the movements. That wouldn't be an issue if the fighters were just grounded only, but considering almost all of them jump, you have to take THAT into consideration, and in order to perform jump moves in modern fighters, they have the person hang on wires while the dev team moves them around in specific poses. Human beings physically can't jump that high (unless they were actual superhuman, which even then is a very TINY percentage) and they most certainly can't attack in the middle of a spin jump. You would still need computers and animators to do very specific finishing touches so that it doesn't look absolutely retarded. And this is just ONE example of the hurdles they would be facing by just recording real people.

At some point you have to ask yourself if the realism aspect is even worth it. The answer is obviousloy no, because these games were first and foremost about the fighting and gameplay set in a fake world where realism isn't a thing. Every fighter back in the day had a distinct and unique asthetic look to them that made them identifiable with each other. Game companies these days, even for non-fighters, are trying to FORCIBLY marry realism with fake... like having their cake and eat it too. As a result, they are sacrificing A LOT and not getting the payoff they expected because of it... specifically from an artistic point. Everything looks bland boring and same-y. So to compensate, they throw particle effects all over the fucking place to make the actions look more "lively" but now you have people that fucking HATE those particle effects (myself included). It's esentially a band-aid that doesn't fix the real underlying damage that has been done.

Why are so many people ( namely in the YouTube comment section ) hating on VF 6 ? The game isn't even out yet and it already looks 10 times better than Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8 .

Some people just want to hate for the sake of being contrarian edge lords... whatever if you hate this trailer so much then go ahead and keep playing your over hyped fireball and eye laser spamming shovel ware games instead.

No modern fighter has been able to recreate the charm of a simple sprite.

This might be a controversial statement but I think at this point Sega is in a good enough position to re-enter the console market if they wanted to.

They have over a dozen multi million selling franchises ( Sonic, Virtua Fighter, Persona, SMT, Yakuza, Super Monkey Ball, Phantasy Star, Total War, Football Manager, Two Point series, Puyo Puyo, Etrian Odyssey , Soul Hackers, Shining, Valkyria Chronicles etc ) compared to the 90s when Sonic and Streets of Rage were the only first party IPs that sold over 1 million units.

Xbox and Playstation are going multiplat, only Nintendo does real exclusives these days.

The brand is arguably more beloved/respected now than it was in the 90s, millions of post 2000s diehard fans would buy a new Sega console for the simple reason of there being a Sega logo slapped on it .

All the IPs that they are reviving right now (Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, Crazy Taxi etc ) would do very well on a new Sega console, all the nostalgic old school Sega fans from the 80s and 90s would buy a new console just to play these new remakes.

Second this - if Sega play their cards right, give the new fans what they want plus make a few deals with services like Steam? They could easily make a fantastic comeback!

What is up with people STILL wanting to separate the god damn gaming market by creating another exclusive gaming platform?
Deep down you know Sega won the console wars.

It was meant to be.

Xbox 360 sold 85 million units, meanwhile the Xbox Series X/S have only sold 30 million units 5 years into this generation. Exclusives sell consoles, anyone that says otherwise is a fool that believes in the " all games should be available everywhere" Kumbaya nonsense that Phil Spencer is always spouting off.

Grow up, buy a PC, and stop being console fanboys.

Almost all of the best games ever made were at one point console exclusives, why do you think that is ?

Exclusivety , closed ecosystems, and unique hardware specs breed creativity. In contrast the PC open market creates a million shovelware indie games every year that are forgotten a day after release.

Almost all of the best games were made in better times, where developers still had creative freedom, people still had talent, and money was available (respectively publishers were much more generous with the funding). I personally do not think that exclusivity has a major impact on quality.
